I've searched the posts and didn't see a whole lot of positive stuff regarding Stream Valley Vets, mostly that their prices are high. Just wondering if anyone else wants to weigh in, positive or negative. I really love the idea of being able to walk down there with my kids for our dog's appointments, and the prices are similar to the vet we went to before we moved here. Sounds like lots of pros for Ashburn Farm Vets. Don't want to go to the place in Clock Tower, although it sounds great, just wanted a place that is closer. Just thought I'd ask if anyone else has anything they want to share about Stream Valley before I make my decision.
    Thanks!

We did not like them. Not only are they expensive, but they seemed short and insensitive with us when our cat was dying. We highly recommend the vet in Cascades, it's a female doc that took care of Socks the Cat... can't remember the name of the place right now. It's a drive. But they were great with us!

We have had nothing but good experiences with Stream Valley. They performed emergency surgery on one of our cats and were nothing but caring and professional. They even called regularly to check in on our kitty after he came home. They are also very patient and understanding with our other cat, who goes psycho at the vet, and have worked with us extensively for cat behavior problems we had between the two cats (they decided after 5 years of being together that they no longer liked each other). We have never had a bad experience with them.

High prices, but everyone in Ashburn is a millionaire, right?

We use them for our four dogs and have had very positive experiences. They are fairly full service with boarding and grooming and we can always get an appt at short notice. In addition, they are open until 7 I believe which is a nice benefit. I do think their prices are too high though. For example, to get a shot for one of my dogs there is a $47 exam fee plus the cost of the shot. The exam is about 5 minutes long and really just involves taking the temperature and a quick external exam. However, we love the convenience and the attention we have received from them over the last five years, including when one of our dogs had to be put down last year.

We like them. My only gripe with them is the exam. My dog needed a lot of shots and it was recommended that we spread the shots over 2 visits. Even though the appointments were only 7 days apart, the doctor charged us for the exam on both visits.

We've generally been happy with them, although I must concur that their prices are high. I'm also fairly curious about what it means to them to have an "annual" exam. Last year we took our dog to be boarded 2 or 3 times and each time we were charged for an "annual" exam. We also got reminder cards for an "annual" during that same year. I always thought "annual" meant once-a-year, but they seemed to refer to an "annual" as every-time-you-walk-in-the-door.

Prices are high, yes. Vet was good. We had the same situation with the shots and two exams. We complained, and they credited us with the amount from the second exam.

I do not like their groomers however. They always keep Maggie in there for the whole day. If I want her to be boarded, that is fine, but for a grooming, I think it should be like a hair appointment. (Not that I have had many, but my DW has!) You show up, and they start in on you within a few minutes of your scheduled arrival! When you are done, you go home!:genius: When I wash and dry or lil St Bernard at home, she is done within 2 hours.

There is a lady in the "Farm" who runs a grooming biz in her basement. She is really nice, and "Mags" smelled like a million bucks for about a week after!:D :cheerleader:

I've just about had it with Stream Valley. We have to board two dogs for one night (have been regulars for 7+ years now), in addition to boarding fee we have to pay for mandatory boarding requirements which are:

    2 x flu shots each
    1 x bortadella each
1 x examination to make sure both are fit enough to get the above shots.

Total before they even board $200. Coupled with boarding fee an non-refundable deposit (they didn't tell us about these fees till we had booked boarding) nearly $300 for two dogs for one night.

Dr. Corey needs to reassess how much cash burn her loyal clientele will tolerate.

I also do not recommend Stream Valley.

I had a 23 year old cat who was at the end of his life and the vet pushed for lots of expensive invasive procedures. When I questioned the usefulness of the procedures, I got sarcastic remarks. He was put on perscription food. We found out a year later when seeing a different vet there that there was nothing in his records that indicated that he needed it.

It also took forever to get out of that place. We always had to wait a minimum of 20 minutes just to pay. Twice we waited 40 minutes when it wasn't crowded. I thought the people who worked the desk were unprofessional.

We switched to Leesburg Veterinary Hospital and found out our cat had cancer. He didn't need thryoid and heart tests. And, no we did not consider treatment for his cancer, evil pet owners that we are.

Can I ask if you would recommend another vet, I've looked into Caring Hands and they were very friendly?

I've used Market Street Animal Hospital twice for cats and been very happy with their personalized service. It's in Leesburg near the courthouse.

I can give a thumbs up to Caring Hands. They are really thorough, very nice, and they don't charge me to clip the dogs nails when I go in for a check-up. Their pricing is also very fair. I took my dog to Stream Valley for years until Caring Hands opened and always felt ripped off. They always had extra tests they wanted to do that were expensive.

We tried Caring Hands and they were nice. There really was nothing I would say wowed me though. The vet we saw didn't have as much experience as Stream Valley and it showed, but everyone has to start somewhere. It was a good thing we didn't have any kind of serious problem; we just took our dog and cat in for a check up. Prices were reasonable.

Thanks for the recommendations. The trouble with Stream Valley, aside from the prices, is the inconsistency. They too have young inexperienced and rotating staff. Dr Corey is experienced but I always feel "fobbed-off" and taken down the high-cost route just because she is the voice of experience.

Hard to say and when your dog is sick and you want her better you go with what you know. Making the leap to someone new seems daunting, but I will try.

We have been going to Old Mill Vet for years (multiple pets). They are experienced and not too expensive. I had an experience with Stream Valley. I found that they gave excellent care, but the prices were double to that of Old Mill. Old Mill is also a fully accredited hospital with more than just one experienced vet.
