Does anybody know of any Suzuki Method Violin or Piano teachers in Ashburn/Sterling/Leesburg? The closest I could find was Reston/Burke/Alexandria areas.

    sds and others--

In the past (about three years ago), we had enrolled our quads at Harmonia School of Music and Arts in Oakton, VA. They also have a school in Annandale, VA. Great summer camps for theatre arts, visual arts, music, drama, and ballet. Alot of our friends who homeschool use Harmonia. Well worth the drive with afterschool hours, Saturdays, and morning classes for preschoolers and older kids. Web site is below:

www.harmoniaschool.org (Harmonia School of Music and Arts web site.)

Also, below are publications with valuable information with a calendar of events, moms (working and stay-at-home moms) support groups, medical information on doctors, etc., and interesting articles. All publications are published monthly and have an online resource list of directories for music, art classes, and other Metro DC, VA, and MD businesses. Birthday caterers and other businesses that families use.

www.washingtonfamily.com (Washington Family magazine with calendar of monthly events and other family resources.)

www.washingtonparent.com (Washington Parent magazine a different publisher than Washington Family. Similar information available.)

www.washingtonwoman.com (Washington Woman magazine for women in a working or stay-at-home women (moms) with local resources, etc.)

Our quads are currently doing similar programs that Harmonia offers at their school for afterschool activites. It is easier than driving 30 miles one way--although we still use Harmonia for summer camps.

    Good luck--

    sds,

We are very happy with our Suzuki violin teachers - Mariam Gregorian and David Strom. They teach out of their home studio, called Herndon Suzuki. They are actively house-hunting in the Ashburn/Broadlands area (yay!), but getting to their home in McNair Farms in Herndon is not a long trip.

There are 3-times-monthly group lessons at a church near Wegmans.

My husband grew up as a Suzuki violinist in this area and is as pleased as I am with the quality of the instruction by David and Mariam. They came highly recommended by other violin teachers in the area, including Ronda Cole, with whom they each completed their practicum. Their contact info and brief bio is below:

Here is some info about the program:

The Herndon Suzuki School is the violin program of husband and wife David Strom and Mariam Gregorian. Both have a Bachelors in Violin Performance from the Hartt School of Music, and a Masters in Violin Performance with an emphasis on Suzuki Pedagogy from the University of Maryland. They are also registered in Suzuki Books 1-10. Private lessons meet weekly, and group classes meet three times a month. All students in the program participate in both private and group instruction. Currently accepting beginners ages 3-7, as well as a limited number of transfer students. Founded by the legendary Japanese teacher Shinichi Suzuki, the Suzuki method of teaching is one that seeks to realize the fullest musical and personal potential of each child through the medium of the violin. At the heart of the Suzuki philosophy is the belief that children learn music in exactly the same manner in which they absorb language — through constant immersion and repetition in the home environment. Just as all children can learn to speak their native tongue, so too can all children become proficient in music. Daily listening to recordings, daily practicing, regular concert attendance, encouragement and love are required of student and parent. Please contact us for our schedule of classes...observers are always welcome!

We take Suzuki lessons in Great Falls at Siena Academy at St.Catherine's of Siena with Anthony Gualandri. The school's phone number is 703-759-4129 and I think they can point you in the right direction...I don't have Mr.Gualandri's phone number handy.
We have been going there since my daughter turned 4 (1 1/2 years ago) and she really enjoys it. He is an excellent teacher and keeps the children interested. I bring a violin too and do the lesson alongside my daughter. Lots of fun!
