Loudoun County, Virginia- The Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to be wary of workers going door to door in neighborhoods offering to resurface driveways, work on roofs or complete other work “for great prices.” The work is often substandard or often not completed.

Recently an 82-year-old victim was working on family property on Lehah Road near Arcola, VA, when he was approached by several workers who said they had extra asphalt after completing another job. They offered to resurface the driveway of the home. After completing the job the men followed the victim back to his home in Arlington, VA to receive payment of $5000.

The workers, sometimes referred to as Travelers, will complete the work and then request payment that is substantially higher then what was originally quoted. They will often use intimidation on the victims to get their money and often target senior citizens. The Travelers may also use another method, burglarizing a home and stealing cash, jewelry and/or silver

If you think you may have been a victim of this scam, please call Investigator A. Harper of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 703-777-0475.

This happened to Kaosdad's Grand pop when he was alive and living by himself in his late 80"S in Lutherville,MD. While they called him outside to take a look at their work and get paid, another person came through the front door and took his money and checkbook. He said they were "gypsies" aka travelers.
