Are they like some weird ant/cockroach hybrid? :eww: As in..they never die? I've sprayed, used ant disks, used my foot..they keep coming back. We always get them at the beginning of the season, but can fix them with some "barrier" spray & ant disks. Not so this year!

Anyone find anything that actually works? We don't have more mess than normal & they are actually on the 2nd AND 3rd floors of my townhouse (none in the basement which is ground level - go figure).

Do you have any shrub or tree branches that are against the house on the upper levels? A few years ago in our old house we were having a problem with large ants upstairs and the pest control company had us trim away a tree branch that was brushing the house and bingo - no more ants.

Nope:) I'd imagine they are crawling the deck stairs to get up - we'll just have to call a pest company I think:rolleyes3:

Are they carpenter ants? I've noticed more around this year than previous years.

Do you have kids? Did they take some food upstairs and hide it from you? We had ants and found out that's waht was drawing them AND the mice.

We've had the same problem with ants this year. Past years we've been able to put down Terro Ant Killer and they would be gone for the rest of the summer. This year I've put the Terro down and they eat it, take it away to the nest, but then they come back!

I can't get rid of them!!! I've got small kids but they don't eat outside of the kitchen and I've been really good about keeping my kitchen floors clean.

I too would like to hear any ideas on how to kill off the nest and keep them from coming back. Btw, my ants are the small black sugar ants.

Borax and sugar mix will kill them.

You can buy borax in the laundry section of the grocery store. Mix 50/50 with regular sugar in a plastic bowl. Place it where they are and they will take the borax back to their colony and kill the others.

Make sure if you have small kids/pets that they don't get into it.

It's worked every time for us!

That is what Terro Ant Killer is. It's a liquid borax solution. It has worked great until this year :<

The ants aren't in the kids' area:) and we're not more crummy than any other year. I'm trying the ant disks again - just more of them!

We had them in the upstairs kids' bathroom about a month ago. Never any food up there, but, there was a bunch of children's medicine. We learned from the exterminator that they love children's tylenol and other liquid meds, anything that has sweetener in it. Luckily, I saw the small crack they were entering, so we had the exterminator put down bait for them to eat (I didn't want them spraying poison all over with the kids). We haven't had any more in the bathroom, but they are back near our front door. Stubborn little things!

On another note, I tried baby powder (actually, baby corn starch) on our back door once. It actually worked. Something about them not being able to inhale the powder, as it suffocates them.

    Good luck!
