Don't forget to dig out around your nearby fire hydrant. Making it accessible saves valuable time, if the fire department needs to use it.

 

You get no sympathy from me. My street has not been touched yet.

Oh, and expect another increase for next year, because this storm has blown our snow removal budget out the window.

And my VDOT street has yet to be touched. Maybe I can get a refund of my state taxes....................

 

That's 'cause you live in the "higher elevations." They probably couldn't make it up the hill on Truro Parish...

I am a bit surprised that the HOA/Nature Center has been thoroughly plowed but several of the HOA streets have yet to be touched at all day. I understand the contractor has worked his tail off, but we are approaching 5PM and the VDOT streets look better than some of the HOA streets.

And yes sidewalks (front & side) have been snow blown to the concrete and we took it all the way to the HOA's trail.

 

It is understandable that the plows only came through the development one time yesterday. However, a snow plow has not come through at all today. Avonworth, the major road through the townhome community, is now almost completely iced over. Several of the connecting streets have not been touched since Sat. morning. I would have though that my HOA dues would have covered the snow plow coming though more than one time in the past two days.

ours hasn't been touched yet either. we're vdot. i just walked the dog around the block (thanks to all that have cleared their sidewalks!), and it's very icy now.

 

Yeah, the wife and I were just talking and agreed that this is odd. HOA plows are usually ahead of the VDOT plows. First time in five years that VDOT beat them out on this one.

Vestals was plowed at somepoint - once is enough - anymore and they'll plow over our driveways, I think everyone has their driveways cleared so I hope they leave it alone. ... spoke to soon, they just went past.

The roads are in pretty rough/bouncy shape, nice and packed but they are getting choppy and full or ruts. Watch out for the man hole covers, the snow is melting from those creating a nasty hole. Not everyone has dedicated snow tires but it seems most drivers are getting around just fine on the major roads, the less plowed intersections are the challenging part.

Note to drivers: Just because you drive a Toyota 4-Runner, etc. doesn't mean you own the snow covered roads and have to pass everyone because some are being a little cautious. Car drivers who are driving 10mph, its not ice and you'll never make it through the intersections. Please ask your neighbor with the SUV to run to the store for you and stay off the roads or walk.

 

Pea and Qzp - I think considering the amount of snow, your street looks no worse or better than most any other side-street in the hood. By the looks, you can get in and out without much difficulty.

 

Even the streets in Ashburn Village that have been plowed several times (the major roads) are still snowy and icy. There's just SO MUCH of the snow that it's overwhelming the plowing capabilities. I think when the Commonwealth of Virginia called a state of emergency on Friday they said to expect to be "on your own" for 72 hours. We're still within that window.

Still, I hope everyone's street gets plowed overnight or first thing in the morning. I know it's no fun to be completely snowed in when others have been plowed at least a little.

 

I think most of us will be dealing with icy roads for days... maybe until Christmas. Is there a rule (or rule of thumb) as to when the plow drivers also salt and sand? My street has been plowed but not salted or sanded. I haven't yet had the courage to get in the car so I don't know what other roads look like. Maybe only hills and intersections get the salt and/or sand? Not complaining... just curious.

 

Woohoo...the HOA contractor is on our street plowing almost curb to curb.

 

I'll be excited when they hit Stone Hollow and Cloverleaf, but now that my driveway is clear I'm not sure I'm up for another 1-2 hours of driveway clearing. I went out for a drive today and was surprised how bad some of the major streets were. Loudoun County Parkway was a mess.... I think we're in good shape considering.......

 

Kudos to the snowplow guy. When clearing my block, he angled the plow's blade to extremely minimize the amount of snow pushed up to each driveway. That saved me and my neighbors from another round of shoveling.
