everyone could do what we had to do even though we didn't want to:

*we and neighbors shoveled our own Road on Sunday. Had to work.

Page 17 of the last HOA newsletter (which has a COLOR cover page)
    states:
"snow plowing is to begin after there has been an accumulation of 2 inches of snow. Sand and/or chemicals will be used at critical intersections and as needed on streets"

    VDOT call 703-383-8368
    Wes Schroeder 703-729-9711

Page 17 also lists all the streets as VDOT or HOA. Looks like basil ct and other streets according to this thread have not been plowed. so All our tax $ and other fees that WE ALL pay don't seem to work fast enough for everyone.

very interesting that fairfax county is cleared and toll road too. nothing to stop them from collecting on $.

I was just at my sister's house today in Springfield and her street has not been touched. Not even once.

First off, it was snowing at a rate of about 1 inch an hour over several hours. If you think our contractor could have enough snow plows in Broadlands to keep up with that kind of snowfall and meet YOUR expectations, well it's just not going to happen.

Secondly, if you believe that the fees YOU PAY don't seem to work fast enough to meet your high expectations, we'll be happy to double the snow budget next year, pass the increase on to you and the rest of the community and meet you back here in the forums while you complain that we spend too much on un-needed snow removal contracts.

Finally, your statement that Fairfax County was 'cleared' is not only ludicrous, but in my opinion demonstrates that you are posting out of 'emotion' rather than rational 'facts'.

I want to thank whomever the contractor is that plows the streets here in Overland Park area of Broadlands. The streets around my house are completely down to the blacktop, no ice/snow. Streets here are better than Claiborne, Waxpool and Broadlands Blvd. Was quite surprised to see how bad Claiborne is still this evening as well as Broadlands Blvd near the Safeway.

I certainly miss the days when the HOA plowed all the streets!!!! They were right on top of things!! I'd personally be willing to pay more in dues to get back the contracting of plows for Broadlands! It'd be worth it.

HOA has never plowed the VDOT streets. The Developer used to do it until they were turned over to VDOT.

I actually did a rough cost estimate for the HOA to plow all our streets.......it was very expensive. I think $10 or more per month per household. And that was for our average winter, not a storm like this one.

In some places, maybe, but definitely not everywhere. The plow line is still a good five feet away from the side of the street here and two cars can still only pass if one pulls into where someone dug their driveway out to the middle of the street.

Chickacoan is listed in the Broadlands newsletter as one of the major roadways. It looks like they plowed Chickacoan From Truo Parish to Vestals Gap but Chickacona from Vestals Gap to Broadlands Blvd is still one lane.

Dropped dinner off at some friends who just had a baby tonight. I got my streets mixed up and went to Chickacoan/Vestals Gap instead of Vestals Gap/Marsh Creek area. It took me 30 minutes to go from one corner to the other because the roads were horrible. Couldn't believe it.

There are crews out clearing Milford Drive tonight. Why they are doing it by COMPLETELY BLOCKING the entrance to the neighborhood, I don't know - that was a bit surprising when we came around the huge mound of snow on Claiborne and couldn't see a way onto the street. We had to go around and come through the townhouses to get home.

On the bright side, when the crews saw that they'd made the road (even coming the back way) and our driveway impassable, they quickly - and kindly - cleared a path for us AND cleared out the entrance to our driveway.

Yea - try being a walker on these roads/sidewalks. My hubby and I are nightly walkers, no matter what the weather, we LOVE walking in the cold weather, helps us sleep and is very envigorating. However, it's no fun with the sidewalks the way they are - some people are very good about shoveling their walks, some - not so much. Walking in the road is just plain dangerous, plus they're all full of ruts and ice. UGH!!!!

Part of the problem here is that because they don't get out and plow the snow right away, people drive over the snow and pack it to ice and then it becomes tough to remove it later. Village Drive is a great example. Now we'll have to wait until it warms up a little so that ice starts to weaken, then it can be chipped off. If you do the plowing quickly up front, you save a ton of problems later.

I remember President's day weekend in 2003 I was up in Philly. We got about 18 inches in DC and about 23 in Philly (snow stopped falling in Philly at about 5:00pm on Monday). DC was closed for like 2 days, but schools in Philly went 2 hours late. The difference is that Philly (suburbs at least) plow early (city is a different story...) and DC just doesn't. Philly and DC get relatively close to the same amount of snow, why don't we plow fast enough?

So did anyone else hear on the news last night that Virginia is done removing the snow due to financial reasons? I have tried to remain quiet about the terrible conditions - but come on now - our streets aren't even going to be sanded?
