I'm on the 512/256k plan, antenna in the attic pointed to the tower, Linksys WET11.

    2003-08-03 09:47:18 EST: 471 / 225
Your download speed : 471165 bps, or 471 kbps.
    A 57.5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 225657 bps, or 225 kbps.

    Ping statistics for 209.123.109.175:
    Packets: Sent = 38, Received = 38, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 24ms, Maximum = 29ms, Average = 26ms

As for dropping the upload, only reason I can think of is the current wireless backbone. I bet once they get the T1s installed at the tower it will go back up.

Your upload is 3 times higher than your download? Man something is hosed with that. I'm on the 512/256 plan and it's getting close to max on both.

Yeah, the problem is that anytime a load is put on the download side, it breaks. [}:)] The upload works at 512 almost all day long w/no problems. Even if Im just surfing, the download will break. Yeah, its hosed. It was working perfect prior to the amp going down 4 weeks ago. Ever since then Ive had this, which I cant use, so Im borrowing my brother's dialup to wait this thing out. Hope its fixed "REAL" soon.
Here's another for you from this morning:

    See.....dialup is faster.....[^]

Dwarflord: So, it sounds like this service has been unusable for the past 4 weeks? Are they refunding any of the service charge? $100 a month (with an unknown end date) is a lot to pay for a service that doesn't work.

I'll wait this out another month or two to see if it's worth me to switch to Verolan. For now, my 128/128 IDSL will have to do. Although it's not much faster than dial-up, at least it's stable. ;)

That still sounds like a hardware issue on your end (the bridge) or their bandwidth shaping tool is hosed (which I doubt, because I was on the 1024/512 for a few weeks and it worked fine). You have perfect signal - your upload contests to that. Adding an amp, antenna alignment, better antenna - anything along that line - won't do a thing. You already have the signal strength fine. And since it only breaks when a certain load hits on the download side it sounds like your bridge or your router is bad. Have you tried hooking the bridge directly to a computer?

    weshsu,
Yes it is a lot to pay for the service, but I think we'll be able to work something out for the last 4 weeks, if we can get it to work this week. When it worked though, it did work well.
    John,
I did bypass the router as a test because I thought that may have been a problem as you suspect too. No change on performance though. I have the upgraded Orinoco bridge and my service worked great for about a week and then this has come about. If it was a line of sight issue, then my upload would stink as well. I suspect the problem is the tower getting me the data. And it just dies when the data load sent to me gets high......power problem at tower for that antenna? Or even a bad Rx on the Orinoco? I dont know.

I have the same problem as Dwarflord. I have had the same problem for 4 weeks. I had contacted VeroLAN about canceling my service, but I was told to hold on for a few more days, that things would become magically better on the 5th. I think this is related to some realignments and subnetting that they are doing. I do not think these are going to help my problem. As others can attest gateway bandwidth is not an issue. It is somthing with our connectivity to the tower.

I am going to give it through tomorrow, then pull the equipment off my roof. I have nothing against Kahlil or VeroLAN. Khalil has always been very open to suggestions and fairly open with what is going on. I just think there are environment issues for my location. I would be willing to come back if a repeater is installed in my area but untill then I am going to have to investigate other solutions.

May be my imagination, but the last couple of days have been much better. I was having most of my trouble with slow d/l speeds, but it has really picked up. Khalil may have just turned up the juice a little. This is finally rivaling the cable I had last year on a good day (cox roadrunner) and is better than Adelphia on its best day. Remembering Adelphia and all its down time along with the worst customer service I've ever seen still gives me the creeps.

They must have done something, even my uploads have increased. It's been a solid week for me, so good I finally switched over my website and am running it at home now. Ping test and bandwidth test this morning came back perfect, no loss and max speeds.

Hell, I got a dialup I pay 5.95/mo. for and get better download speeds.
Like I said, worked great for a week, the amp died and so has this connectivity to the tower.[V]

My buddy down in south riding has VeroLAN service with no complaints. He has a direct line of site connection to our tower. My connection problem has just been the line of trees in the way of the tower. T0o many reflected signals cause a spike in noise when the connection is used. I am glad to hear every one else is enjoying the connection. I just wish those trees wern't in the way.

I've read this entire thread. You all seem so knowlegeable about this wireless service. I, admittedly, am ignorant when it comes to internet access. We still have simple dial up through AOL. My employer has finally set up acess to our system over the internet if you have high speed. I often have to work weekends and would love to do so from home. Would you reccommend that I sign up with VeroLan? We live at Vestals Gap and Hunters Green Square (townhouse). Is the connection good from where we live? I've noticed that some of you have no problems at all, while others are miserable. I just don't want to pay for something that isn't going to work. Also, what type of service should we get? All the numbers are meaningless to me. Thanks for the help! I am a bit embarrassed about how little I know in this area. [:I]

    Sydney,
Give Verolan a call so they can do a site survey. Eventhough I am having problems and I think a couple others, you may not. Also, Verolan is definitely commited to get things to work for you and I have never had a problem w/their customer service not professionalism. Im sure they would be happy to do a site survey for you. Just ask for Khalil or Jorge, they'll set you up, and they'll do it fairly quickly too.
G/L and let us know what you do....

I agree with Dwarflord. Give VeroLAN a call.

As for type of service it sounds as though you get along with AOL Dialup. That would be equivlant to a 56/56 connection in VeroLAN terms. So their smallest plan 256/128 would be about 4 times faster than your AOL account. The first number is the download speed, this is what you will use the most. The second number is your upload speed, this would be used when you were sending an email.

I would start small (256/128) and move up if you need more. I will warn you though that speed is addictive and you might want more and more! :)

Another option for you would be Adelphia Cable Modem. I know, I know, we all hate them, but for non power users they are not too bad. You will get a 1500/100 connection through them for about the same price as VeroLAN's 384/128 connection. They will probably be a little less reliable and their customer service is worse than Verizon Wireless but you do get more bang for the buck.

Hope that helps a little. Its a jungle out there, do some research and make the choice that makes sence for you.

VeroLAN is Great (If it works for you), and Adelphia does not suck too bad (For non Power Users).

Thanks so much for your advice. I'll try and give VeroLan a call on Monday. Will keep you posted.
