Gee, an old favorite movie line of mine comes to mind: "Who here is for the Bill of Rights? Who thinks the Constitution is a pretty darned good thing? Who is against the kind of censorship they had under Stalin?" To think it comes from a baseball movie.

There are still 9% undecideds in this country, one day before the election. I talked to one yesterday and I believe she will go Kerry.

Yes, the signs in my yard serve a purpose. The do advertise who I support, and they invite people who may not have made up their mind or who are in doubt to talk to me about what I believe in and why I feel strongly enough to (for the first time ever) have signs in my front yard.

Virginia may go republican again, and then, it may not. Some polls suggested that VA was within the margin of error, so there is always hope for change. Just because Kerry and Bush don't campaign here, that doesn't mean there is no campaign and that yardsigns are not necessary.

And then of course, as previously mentioned, there is the issue of freedom of speech.

you'd be surprised who would vote based on a yardsign. just the same as "peer pressure" works in schools... there are sheep out there, and if all they see are a bunch "Vote So and So" signs in almost every neighbors yard, you think that wouldn't have an effect on some people? scary thought yes, but i'm certain it happens! i know someone personally who voted for a certain party candidate because "everybody else" in her office was voting for them!

yard signs are obviously not going to sway any of those who think for themselves, but then again, a lot of people don't, they just "go with the flow" and try to fit in.

Those types of people shouldn't be allowed to vote, then. You're electing the leader of the free world, here...time to do some research on your own. These are the same people that buy awful products just because of the pretty packaging without regard for the products themselves.

100% agreed, brim...but they ARE allowed to vote in our free country, and many of them do. people market to them because it's so easy. it takes all kinds.

i don't think anyone's right to vote is going to be taken away anytime soon (at least i hope not), so why not try to win a few sheep to your side, since they are afforded the right to vote anyway...
