I was so excited to see them working on it!!!

I find it sad because you know they lost interest in maintaining it once the gave all their land away to George Mason.

Not true! The folks at Van Metre have been working on getting the fountain repaired for many weeks, unfortunately things do not always happen as quickly as we would like...VM still has lots of commercial property to develop in Broadlands and they have a vested interest in keeping their investments looking inviting.

Actually, Van Metre has been very generous in giving to the community still. They have supported EarthDay@Loudoun from the beginning as well as other community projects.
I know it's difficult to see Van Metre as anything but an entity, but behind the name, there are many people who really care and contribute to our community.

So, who will maintain the sign once VM has developed all their commercial property? The HOA?

It will never be maintained by the HOA as it is not on HOA common area. My guess when that day comes it will be the commercial property association.

I think the fountain/sign looks nice with or without water especially lit up at night. If one day the fountain is turned off they could use it as a large planter filled with flowers:)

I agree with the planter idea. I have more issue with the lack of lights... the fountain is great though and I'm glad it's fixed!!!

What I find sad is that they are actually building a GMU campus right next to the Nature Preserve. Is it not possible to leave a little nature here? I doubt there will be much nature there once the building gets started. :-(

nappper - did you think they would leave that land vacant? it would have had office buildings (its original purpose) on it eventually. Maybe the college will be a better fit next to the nature perserve from a eco standpoint....

As a Mason graduate, it would be great to have a Mason campus nearby...Im sure they will take care of the grounds.

Yes, I actually did! I guess I just don't see the need to build on every piece of land available. And can you imagine the amount of traffic that it's going to cause? It's right in the housing developments!

Does anyone know when the building is supposed to start?

This land was always to be developed.

You don't see the need to develop something because you didn't pay for it or have to continue paying for it - so it's real easy to say 'leave it open!'. You could have always bought it yourself and left it open.

Yea, whatever. Let's just see how many people complain once it's built and you can't get out of the development because of all the college kids driving to and from classes.

Did they have to develop the land your house is on? There wouldn't be your house if they didn't have the commercial space also approved to be built. You see, the county requires the commercial space (tax positive) to offset you and your house (tax negative).

There is still no funding for it, so it is years away.

The Nature area is not part of the GMU property and will continue to be owned and maintained by Van Metre through their Comercial Property Association.
