Dog here is the way the world works, if you believe in it it is good and if you don't it is bad. I guess it is ok that for what ever reasons as you believe some people should be reduced to nothings. Health care should be for everyone without reducing them to ruin. We don't chose our parents and we do chose many of the bad diseases that happen to us. We chose to go do do the kind of work (Doctors???) under the pretense to help people not suck them dry. Medicine should not be to make someone rich or you should not be in it. Like social services it should there for all in all communities.

Lee - I think your argument has some genuine points. (and yes I am being nice to you)

There is no synergy in our current healthcare situation and financially the burden actually falls on those who are insured.

    1) Insurance cos, hospitals and doctors need to increase their rates to mitigate the fiscal shortfall of those who are uninsured.
    2) Doctor’s have ever rising mal-practice insurance and it equates to a fiscal black hole
    3) Pharmaceutical companies consistently show profits ranging from 4-60 Billion dollars – while some patients have to worry about eating or taking their medicine

Insurance premiums continue to go up and this cost is passed down to folks like us.

Inova has an undeniable healthcare monopoly (Loudoun, FFX and PW counties) and they can manipulate what insurance companies may pay-out for services rendered to us (the patients).

In Loudoun there is no other choice other than Inova.

That's fine. Should ALL non-profit organizations be taxed then? Is there anything that would not be taxed in your worldview to give government more money?!

In effect, you would rather have government programs and bureaucrats act as tools of compassion rather than have local churches serve communities with their soup kitchens, support groups and such. Okay. HUD anyone?!

Lee, when did I say anyone should be reduced to nothings? That's just a flat out lie. You resort to lies when your arguments are inane.

Why do you automatically think that doctors are there to "suck people dry?" It is disturbing that you automatically ascribe the worst motives to doctors and hospitals.

You said: "It is my understanding and correct me if I am wrong, but the non profits INOVA will take care of you and not try to destroy you financially as the hospital for profit HCA will."

What makes you think HCA will "try to destroy people financially?" Where do you come up with that?

You have told us how many rich people you have designed homes for. Could you tell me how many poor people you have designed homes for? Do you provide your architectural services for free or to get rich? I mean, you live in a nice home in the Regency. What's up with that?

Pea, you have some good points about malpractice insurance (anyone here for tort reform against the lawyers?) but I am a little disturbed at the implications of your post. Are you suggesting that the government nationalize pharmaceutical companies and redistribute everyone's money so that we are all equal? Because that's what you are lamenting above.

I don't quite understand hostility to companies making a profit after they risk their money, conduct R&D, etc.

Many countries have tried socialism/Marxism, and it hasn't worked out real well :)

You are correct Steve I do live in dream land.
I draw pretty pictures all day long  and I am self employed so I understand the insurance thing a bit better then the people that have their companies provide for it.

Isn't this country founded on dreams and equality?????

Let us put it this way Inova did a better job about my broken ribs then the for profit place down the street from me. And Inova did not hound me about the money like the for profit place did.

Oh come on Lee. You know the answer to this question. All hospitals have indigent care programs. Stop believing everything you're hearing from Inova talking heads.

Personal experience in our family (one of my kids) and I will leave it at that. It was a small thing but blew up into a bigger picture then it should of. Inova ended up handling the whole thing in a much better way.

If you have big time health insurance HCA is your big time friend.

Good point flynnibus. Non-profit also means no taxes paid! Both are in it for profits.

I am self-employed and know it it expensive, but I don't look to the government to provide everything in life for me.

And NO, this country is NOT founded on equality! It is founded on the principle that all persons are created equal and should have equal opportunity. But our goal is not equality of results! Lee, you live in that nice home because you are great at what you do and work hard. Are you really for equality? Because if you are, you're going to need to move.

Your misunderstanding of non-profits and for-profits of hospitals is laughable. Someone else can address that.

So you generalize the entire way of business based on your paperwork chases?

Honestly - if all you are going to do is stir up crap - skip the forums.

    Lee,

The rates you and your family are paying at Inova, is a negotiated rate between insurance providers and the hospital provider.

Re-read Pea's point. If there is a monopoly like Inova doing the negotiating they end up dictating rates. The insurance company has no leverage or alternative.

Among other reasons, this is a big one on the competition issue. When HCA is here then YOUR insurance company will have the option of bidding two hospitals off of each other so YOU get a better rate. I am sure you can understand this concept as it relates to all business, including building design and construction.

That's a tough one and I'll do my best to answer.

Heck no - I am not suggesting that Big brother should equalize the pay-out for Rx or nationalize private Rx companies. But in some ways we already have national standards in place via the FDA.

Price regulating of Rxs would be nice, but that would push us towards a socialistic medical system. That scares the p$%s out of me (look what happened in Canada) and the National Health care plan scares me as well.

I respect that companies have taken a calculated risk - however they also get multi million dollar grants to off-set their initial capital investment.

Once their product has passed clinical trials, FDA approval and is on the market does this give them the right to plunder the pockets of the working class?

Not trying to be hostile, more over just presenting some stagger facts and speaking from experience.

For many of us who have had to "take care" of elderly and/or fix income family members b/c medicare/caid didnt quit cut it - the financial burden can be alarming.

OK steve afgm dog thepea and all you other people:happygrin: if this hospital was in another location a few miles down the road we would not even being having this dialog here. And it is not just here it is being discussed all over.

Why is something that is supposed to be good for us is being such a dividing point in the community.

I agree with eliminating corporate welfare. But look at your words: "plunder the pockets of the working class."

It's a slippery slope when you have the government regulating prices, redistributing wealth even more and taking away the profit motive. This is a scary place to go, because when you eliminate reward for risk, innovation and hard work....you will lose risk, innovation and hard work!

I completely agree with your whole statement.

I am just having a disconnect - isnt that what medicare/aid and the VA/VBA already do for a lot of americans already?

That's an easy question, and the answer is greed, and a fierce effort to hold on to a long established monopoly.

If HCA had bought another piece of property a few miles down the road we would be seeing the same business campaign that Inova is wagering to protect their interests.

You are right a lot of people are discussing this. There was a strong showing of support by multiple speakers last night at the BOS public comment.

Inova would fit just as hard to keep their market share/ monopoly. In other counties Inova just purchased their competition or market. There was never a threat of a new player as in the BRMC case.

Healthcare is very personal choice and a provocative topic - therefore a "divide" in any group/community is inevitable.
