Since it mentions York, Buckley, Delguadio and Waters voting against, one can assume he voted for it.

Hmmm...I voted for the Broadlands Rec. Center, and I didn't get that.:devil2:

Like most of the county, I voted to kick out the Republican-controlled board in the last election after they raised my taxes for no good reason at all. So, it would appear that both parties are intent on picking our pockets clean.

Thanks for the info. This is helpful!

At least we don't have to pay for it either. I'm curious what that extra $30M would have done to the tax rate.

Did they make any cuts at all? Anywhere (on either the school or county side)? Or are they just not adding some of the additional services that were requested?

There were no "cuts" just a reduction in the rate of growth. The proposed increase would give the schools $55m more than last year according to the article in the post.

Actually, it does represent a cut in per-child spending. Spending per child would have stayed level at about $1.16.

But do you agree that the overall budget increased? I'm not in spin mode.

At least they have a shiny, brand new administration building from which to make these decisions and "cuts." There is a lot of waste in the system.

No. Every county service needs to be closely evaluated before the county hits up Mr. and Mrs. Taxpayer. The supervisors seem only intent on avoiding the hard work and simply is asking the taxpayers to write a blank check.

I'm sorry maybe it's the lack of caffeine, but "No" on whether the total school budget as measured in millions of dollars didn't increase over last year?

I knew that the rest of the county would vote it down. It was specifically written to achieve that outcome. Seriously, asking the county whether BROADLANDS (and no other community in Loudoun) needed a Rec. Center. Of course, the people in Sterling would say no.

In all honesty, I only voted for it because I knew it would be defeated. I don't think the county needs to provide Rec. Centers for its residents. The private sector can do that better and more equitably for those who want to pay for its use.

Genco, I'm sorry - I totally misread the question. I thought you had asked whether the budget should be increased, and that's what I responded to. I re-read the question, and I realize you were asking something totally different! My apologies.

What logic could possibly have resulted that action? Correct me if I am wrong but I read your statement as you think the rec center was a bad idea, but yet you voted for it specifically because it had no chance of winning? It's a good thing more people didn't think like you as we'd be paying for an unwanted $30M rec center :screwy:

Oh, yes. I agree it's an increase in actual dollars for the school board. I wasn't spinning, I was just stating the reality that enrollment has also gone up.

I agree that enrollment has gone up. Still, I don't think the right answer is just to say, "more students, more money." I'd like the county to really show us that the extra money is needed, and Hatrick should have to prove that the waste has been eliminated.
