Don't get too excited yet...it could still be months before they light up the wires and start rolling it out. They buried cables under my yard over 2 months ago and FiOS is still not available. :(

Please post your install experience here this weekend! Also let us know what you think of the TV picture quality, Internet speed, what package you got and approximate cost, etc.

    Thanks!

To anyone who's had the fiber laid, how soon after you received a notice on your door did they start digging?

    Will do.

    I ordered:
Up to 20 Mbps/5 Mbps Internet
    FiosTV with Movies
    Unlimited phone

I have a 65 inch 1080p tv and 110 inch 1080p projector to evaluate the picture quality versus Dish. I won't be able to do a direct comparison since verizon will use the dish wires during setup.

It has been a long hard road waiting for this. It took multiple calls to verizon to try to get my questions answered. Even when I called the guy listed on my "fios is here call John Smith for details" card, it was clear they didn't have a good handle on their service. Once you ask about multiple DVRs, HD, or ask them specific network questions, you can sense their eyes glazing over!

Then for good measure, they cut my comcast line when they dug the trench around my yard and cut my sprinkler line when running the wire to the house. But, in the end, it should be worth it. The new $200 or so a month is cheaper than the $300+ bill for comcast/dish/home phone.

Called my friend in Burke that got Fios a few months ago. She pays $134 for tv/phone/computer. No installation or intiation fee. Has DVR and 2 receivers. She said the install to the neighborhood was messy. Install to the house was easy and no mess at all. I can't wait!!! especially after a $390 bill this month for land line/wireless/directtv.

I'm on Spring Morning Ct., and our yards got painted up yesterday. FIOS is getting close.

I chatted briefly with the UtiliQuest guy who was doing the marking. He said that if you have an in-ground sprinker system or an invisible dog fence, there is a pretty good chance that what you've got will be damaged or destroyed.

From the orange-colored door hanger... Ivy H. Smith Company, LLC is Verizon's authorized contractor. Their number is (800) 768-8831.

FWIW--When our FIOS was installed, our sprinkler system was spared, but I guess it all depends on where your sprinkler heads are located. Our biggest problem with FIOS right now is that it pretty consistently goes down between 4:30pm and 6:30pm EVERY DAY....that includes internet access AND our phone. We've made over 30 phone calls to Verizon and have gotten nowhere. We even had two scheduled repairs, but each time the repairman checked our line before coming out and since it wasn't down at the moment, just never came...even though we'd taken off work to meet them. Grrr.....

When it's working though, it's great!

Thanks for the update! Utilities seldom keep the HOA office in the loop!

It looks like the doors on Welby all received the "FIOS is coming soon" fliers today.

The install went smoothly. About 5 hours. I got 2 HD-DVRs and 2 Standard Settop boxes. The internet speed is 20 mb down/ 5 mb up. Fiostv with HBO and all movie packages. Telephone is unlimited local and long distance. I'm at about $220/month for all of that. Which is about $100 cheaper than Dish/Comcast/Telephone I had before it.

The internet is MUCH faster and more consistant than comcast.

The HDTV looks better than Dish HD (I haven't seen Dish's "new" 1080p HD channels to compare it to). The number of FIOS HD channels is less than Dish, but they say they'll have 150 HD channels by the end of the year?!? We'll see.

All-in-all, I would highly recommend the FIOS.

    Thanks BigDog!

For the 5 hour total install time, would you say someone needed to be present at home that whole time? Was part of that 5 hours spent digging the line all the way to your home from the local feeder box?

Thanks again for posting your experience and approximate monthly cost. I encourage everyone to do the same so we can all get a good picture/idea of what to expect when we're able to order Fios.

My install is scheduled for Monday. They dug up the yard about 5 days ago. I am going to save a little over $80 per month (Comcast & Verizon now). Free Home Media Center (for one year). This allows you to watch programs recorded on the DVR from any receiver in the house (and to access pictures and music from your PC).

I have read that a whole slew of new HD channels are coming for the DC market on Sept. 22. Can't wait! I'll report on how the install goes.
