Hmmm....an argument is being made that hospitals shouldn't be in residential areas. Let's see.....
1)Lansdowne. Residential (albeit a bit farther from homes),
2)Reston....residential on three sides of the hospital.
    3)Fair Oaks....surrounded by residential.

Yep, you're right. Hospitals aren't in residential areas.

Reston is a case on it's own. We studied it in my Urban Planning course as a fusion of city and burb.

Hey Cliff, for a fair comparison, can you also post the stats on how many psychiatric inpatients each of those hospitals houses? Not trying to inflame the debate, just curious. Thanks.

Loudoun Hospital's Cornwall campus is in the heart of Leesburg...Donna, maybe you can let us know the concerns of citizens that surround that hospital regarding the adult mental health beds? According to HSANV's report there is not increased crime in that area.
Dominion Hospital is in the heart of Falls Church, in the Seven Corners area.

Reston Hospital is surrounded by Condos, Apartments and Townhomes, not single families... MUCH different scenario...

If there was an existing Phsych hospital here with helipad, I never would have even looked to buy a house here. My question for all that will simply die when a hospital isn't built ....why did you move here? You should have moved to landsdowne or reston or fair oaks.

Dominion Hospital is closing down... remember? and it is in Falls Church and in a dumpy/poor area. That is why it is closing down b/c the hospital is not making any $$ there... that is why they want to move their hospital to B-lands.... duh
Yes, Cornwall is in the heart of L-burg but it is not inside a planned community.

    SK8R-
Wrong again. HCA is not closing their hospital in Arlington. It will still be open for outpatient and emergency room services. They are closing their inpatient services. The hospital will remain open.
    Donna-
My point was that hospitals ARE COMMON in residential areas, responding to a common that they are not.
    Brooks5-
Again, trying to raise the mental health concern. Still hoping you'll be interested in visiting Dominion Hospital so you can see the reality of the types of patients and services provided there.

Have any of you received the letter from LHC or seen the petition kids working for LHC are going around the neighborhood with?
They claim HCA is trying to zone parts of the property for drive-through restaurants, nightclubs, and research facilities.
What a shame that the executives there have to resort to putting out knowingly false information in order to scare residents.
But they are offering free food and bus service to get people to attend the hearing!!

Cliff, CLiff, CLiff, maybe if you would read the rezoning that HCA has presented in the public comments you would see that the above mentioned possibilites come straight from the staff report for the HCA plan. Those possible uses of the property are IN FACT listed as HCAs zoning possiblities. Once again, do not say that LHC is spreading false information if you your self havent personally read the documents. You can't just go by what HCA tells you...you should know that by now. When I have a chance I will provide to you the exact page and paragraph.

Please refer to my above sited disclaimer.

Here is an excerpt from HCA's COPN.

"...Dominion Hospital was originally constructed as a nursing home in 1968. Later it was converted to half nursing home half mental health facility. Then the remainder of the facility was converted to behavioral health care. Thus it lacks areas for recreation or group activities found in modern behavioral health units. This will be a primary focus for Broadlands..."

I believe that this facility will eventually be predominantly a Psychiatric Hospital. If this is truly a replacement hospital, what will become of the Dominion's existing adult patients? Where will they end up?

I've included a link to the excerpt that I referenced.

Nobody said that hospitals don't exist in residential areas. The point being made was that new hospitals should not be constructed in existing residential communities.

Because there are hospitals in close proximity to residential areas, the effect has been studied. The analysis has shown that there is inevitably</u> conflict between the residents and the hospital.

YOU may enjoy helicopters rattling your windows at night, but I do not.
YOU may enjoy sirens screaming at all hours, but I do not.

I not undestand why HCA want to have nightclub and fast food at hosptial. That crazy. Add scream siren 24 hour all day, crazy traffic, crazy patient, it all add to crazy and loud. Nobody need extra hospital here when one close enough allready.

    Dang

HCA isn't going to build a night club. This is exactly what LHC is trying to do. Scare residents into believing that HCA is going to trash the community. Have any of you residents attending any of the meetings HCA has held out here? Have any of you called into BRMC or spoken with people in the office to find out the real truth? I got that letter and I read the COPN linked from this website and looked at the zoning info on loudoun.gov.

In the letter it states this:

You should know that HCA has told Richmond that the land in Broadlands is appropriately zoned for a hospital. That is not true. If it were true, why is HCA appearing before the county Planning Commission this Monday night at 7:30 to ask for rezoning approval?

If you look at the COPN submitted by HCA it states this:

    If Attachment II.A.4. Zoning Status

The site is zoned PD-H3 (Planned Development Housing) and PD-OP (Planned Development Office Park). The PD-H3 zone will be administered as PD-OP. A hospital is allowed with a special exception in either zone and a medical office building is allowed in either zone.

An application for special exception has been submitted.

What did HCA lie about to Richmond? And why is LHC or Tony Raker getting involved in land issues out in the Broadlands? Don't they have enough to handle with their hospital that was almost in bankruptcy a few years ago? This so-called nightclub and fast food restaurant are just examples of what COULD be put on the land if granted a special expection. If you attended meetings or called the office you'd know what the plans for that 3.8-acre parcel were.

What LHC is doing is shameful and this last tactic has convinced me that I don't want to do business with this type of company. Everybody needs to do their own research and gather their own facts and make an EDUCATED decision based off of their factual research and not just hearsay. This is ridiculous! And yes, this is my first post and probably not my last. In case Neilz pops in I'm not a troll. I'm just fed up with the nonsense that gets posted on here. I hope new people or prospective residents aren't reading these post, they'll never want to move here.

I find it real interesting that your first post is incredibly Pro-HCA. These forums wont keep people from buying a house here, the hospital may but I really doubt it.

You say that to everyone that post the first time and likes the idea of a hospital here in the Broadlands. Whatever Homer...

I was referring to another thread on here that talks about monitoring what we say because people come to this website for information before buying here. Actually I think it was one where a resident was complaining about the builders.

I'm not Pro anyone...I just don't like people using factual data for infactual statements.

Way to go SoxFan! (from the other non-troll!)

Homer, you really need to find a nicer way to welcome first time posters that are, in your opinion,"incredibly Pro HCA".

"I find it real interesting that your first post is incredibly Pro-HCA." (the warm welcome extended to SoxFan)

"You dont find it the least bit odd that her very first post is an incredibly Pro HCA post?" (the warm welcome extended to me)

I did a little research at the loudoun.gov website...here is a link to the facilities approved under a special exception. (scroll down to special exception section)

    http://inetdocs.loudoun.gov/b&d/docs/1993zoningordin_2/article4_/4300pdop/office2k/office2k.htm

hmmm...I don't see the LHC coined phrase "Nightclub" anywhere. (This appeared in their letter to residents dated July 14.)

The parcel that HCA bought in Broadlands is 50+ acres. The area that is undefined in how it will be used is the 3.8 acres that LHC is drawing attention to, scaring residents into believing that HCA is going to put something on that lot that would be less than desirable in our community. That's just not true.

Shouldn't this mean that the petitions that the Loudoun Hospital employees collected in our neighborhood should be thrown out as they were collected under false pretense? The petition leads residents to believe that HCA will "completely change the permissible uses of the remainder of the property to such uses as drive-through comercial/retail, restaurants, conference centers and research facilities."

Homer, I think you're seeing some first time posters as a result of those who are tired of the scare tactics LHC is using.
