It's called a stop sign for a reason, folks. USE IT at Hawksbury and Royal Fern in Southernwalk. I work from my home office, and I've got a direct visual to your license plate number. Love, The Traffic Nazi.

I've often thought that people think stop signs aren't meant for them...irritates me to see so many people roll through them. Justice was done one day though, person ahead of me rolled right through and for once, a Sheriffs car saw it and stopped her.

So what? There's nobody coming, why should I stop? I totally slowed down!

That's a pet peeve of mine, too.

I am seeing that its happening with more frequency around the southernwalk area. In fact, I see quite a few folks blowing through the stop signs OR just as someone enters the middle of the intersection, they enter the intersection. What ever happened to waiting UNTIL the person finishes driving through the intersection???

Lately, at Croson and Claiborne Parkway, there are so many drivers blowing the stop signs...they don't even bother STOPPING or slowing down. They just go right through it knowing very well that there isn't gonna be anyone to stop them from doing so.

I guess its just the "country" way of driving around here or people are too lazy to wait for people to finish driving across the intersection or are in such in a hurry to go places.

Well, maybe we need bigger stop signs, so that people see them. My only other thought is no matter how big the sign is, PEOPLE ARE TOO STUPID TO UNDERSTAND THEM, and nothing will fix that. Be vigilant, drive defensively, it's the only way.

or this classic from last night's commute from class (i'm finding that the 8PM crowd is definately lower on the IQ than the simply frustrated rush hour jerks).

If i don't stop my car at the sign, I can wedge in front of you to make the right turn onto Wynridge first and shave 5 seconds off of my self-important life

Idiot. Never mind that it's dark and visibility is reduced, and your genetically equivalent doppleganger idiot may be barreling off of the toll in a drunken stupor. But hey, there I go trying to hose up the natural order of things.

    Peace.

I'm sure that every driver of every totaled vehicle I've drove past had that exact thought in his or her head, right up to the point where the immutable law of physics took over and demonstrated that very concept in high definition.[/QUOTE]

Great chuckle for the day - thanks!

No kidding!! *If we ever need to figure out a way to pay for more schools I'd suggest having the police sit there for a few days. We could knock out a new school over the course of a few months easy!

    *Might be a slight exaggeration

Let's not EVEN discuss directionals (blinkers). They are there to help others understand what you move you are considering making in a few seconds with your vehicle. Turning and merging for example.

And pedestrians in the crosswalk have the right of way. That is NOT just the law in California.

Folks who ride motorcycles around here have more guts than I do. Talk about playing Russian roulette with your life! No matter how good you are on a bike, you're risking it all by sharing the road with people who don't know how to drive. The life expectancy for those who ride them during rush hour must be pretty limited. :conf4:

I so want to teach people what "right turn on red" really means. It does not mean you get to turn on red regardless of other traffic.

Also, the person with the left turn signal that is a green arrow has the right of way over a person from the opposite direction turning right with a red light.

There's just so many. Just because you can beat someone out doesn't mean you should.

I'm one of those PITA people that stops at every stop sign and red light even if no one is coming. Get over it.:2thumbs:

I particularly love when I honk at someone who pulls out in front of me unsafely and then they then flip me off. Really?

Way too many stop signs here. They aren't used correctly and they slow traffic. Why we cant use islands I don't know.

There are also too many busy bodies :p

If by "busy bodies" you mean people who dont' want to see people get killed because some can't follow the law, then, yeah, I guess we do. Get over it.

Your post just tells me you run stop signs and probably red lights. Your luck will run out.

No I mean people in glass houses who throw stones. But feel free to direct your post rage at me; I have nothing to get over.

I have passed way more stringent testing than your average soccer moms so thank you for your presumptions of my driving techniques.

I would agree with you though that if Broadlands has a high traffic death rate something needs to be done - do you have any statistics?

I was walking down Chicacoan today and saw about 10 cars approach the stop sign at the intersection of Chicacoan/ Ellzey. One car stopped at the all way stop, all the others rolled through as though the world is their oyster, and a stop sign is optional. I feel like camping out there and making a video, then posting it to the Loudoun County Sheriff's website so they can get an officer out there. A stop sign means your wheels stop turning and your forward momentum ends. Then you may proceed through the intersection if it's your turn.:angryfire:

I NEVER run stop signs or red lights. And I'm totally serious. I come to a complete stop at both. What does "I have passed more stringent testing than your average soccer mom mean"? I'm not a soccer mom. In fact, we're empty nesters. I've also NEVER been in an accident and haven't had a ticket in 30 years, even though I drive every day.

So, please tell us how stop signs aren't "used correctly" by your definition. Last time I checked the law, stop signs mean STOP, a complete full stop.

Once again you seem to have taken my post as a direct comment to yourself. Not sure why but at no point have I called you a busy body or called you a soccer mom. Just want to clarify that.

There are issues where people don't stop but there are also issues where people sit there, don't understand when its their turn to go and generally slow traffic.

I also think there are way too many 4 way intersections of multi carriageway roads.

The original poster was talking about a stop sign in a residential neighborhood. Traffic in a neighborhood should be slow and drivers going faster than the speed limit are a danger to the people living in the neighborhood. The few seconds you gain by speeding aren't worth the risk to the residents....
