We received a coupon in the Clipper magazine for a free dole whip at Hawaiian Scoop (off Ashburn Road) so we went out to try it. It was a little difficult to find. It's kind of across the street from Partlow's in a new shopping strip. I loved all of the flavors and it immediately reminded me of an ice cream shop in Kauai. It has a tropical theme, hence the name, Hawaiian Scoop and the owners were really great. It's a different kind of ice cream - I'll be trying the Dole Whip next time. When I visited, they had only raspberry, but she said they have pineapple on Friday-Sunday. Check the Clipper magazine for a coupon if you've missed it.

Thanks for the info, Shutterbug :) It sounds like a good addition to the Ashburn area. Have you ever tried the custard place in the shopping strip in Ashburn Village that has Harris Teeter, Home Goods, etc.? I haven't, but was wondering if anyone has. Thanks!

That is Milwaukee Frozen Custard. They don't offer many flavors but what they have is great! Frozen custard is creamier and a bit richer than ice cream. Try it and see what you think.

We have been to Hawaiian Scoop on Ashburn Rd. twice now. It is quite nice. They sell Lapperts brand Ice Cream, in addition to Dole Whip, soft serve, and Hawaiian coffees. If you have been to Hawaii, you may have had this brand. (Shutterbug did you go to the Lapperts in Princeville?) This is traditional, high quality ice cream in a number of ordinary and out-of-the-ordinary flavors. Apparently they have opened a ice cream plant in California and use the same ingredients that are used in Hawaii.

The owners are very nice. The store has an area with 4-5 tables and is large enough to feel like you are not packed in with everyone else.

This is a definite plus for ice cream lovers in the area.

I love Hawaiian Scoop! They even received great reviews in the Washington Post Food section a few weeks ago. They're a little hard to find (just off of Ashburn Rd.), but it's definately worth the trip. I love the fruit frostees. It's 100% fruit. There are no additives. Great for those who are watching what they eat. They also have the Dole Whip which is soy based and fabulous for those who are lactose intelorant. My daughter loves the pineapple and mango Dole Whip.

Oh yum! I've had that in Manhattan Beach and in Lahaina. Good stuff. Thanks for the info. I'm not a Cold Stone or Maggie Moos fan, so I'll have to get my fix here now!

It is just behind the new LA Boxing (across the street from the small white church) on Ashburn Rd. It's a brick office like building.

Across the street from Ashburn Presbyterian Church. There's also a real estate office in that building.

Yes, now that we found it we love it too! Now I can have the kids help me wash the dog at Bark n Bubbles and then reward them with a Hawaiian Scoop.

If you really want a treat, and are willing to take a drive or are just in the area, try Klein's on Rt 28 near Manassas. We went to a Potomac Nationals game last year and happened upon it. I couldn't believe we found it - they have one in Harrisonburg where I went to college. It's a small, very old spot with the best pure ice cream you'll ever eat. Make a point to stop there if you're ever in the area.

We tried Hawaiian Scoop tonight as well - great place! The family who owns it are very nice. You definitely have to try the Fruit Frosty - pure fruit, no sugar, what a treat!! We'll be back.

We just took the whole family today and really loved it! The ice cream was fabulous. It's flown in from Hawaii, which is pretty neat. The owners and employees are very friendly, too. Unfortunately, its location doesn't have a lot of pass-through traffic since Ashburn Road no longer connects to Rt. 7. I really hope everyone gives it a try because it's a nice addition to the area. www.hawaiianscoop.com

If people going to Ashburn Park (aka Dinosaur Park) get in the habit of taking the kids there for ice cream after the park it could do well.
