Are we getting a liquor store at SW Plaza? I thought a real estate office is going in that corner pad. I personally think we have enough liquor stores in Ashburn and I wouldn't want one near where I live.

I agree that we do not need another one in Broadlands but why wouldn't you want to "live" near one?

They keep the stores clean, crime at ABC stores is lower than banks or convenience stores and the people that frequent them are most likely your neighbors.

Virginia needs to move out of the dark ages with these liquor laws. California you can buy hard Liquor in the grocery stores almost anytime of the day.

People are going to drink if they want to drink no stopping that. Besides they can get it at any bar after these ABC stores are closed. So you have people driving and drinking when if they could of bought it at the grocery store, perhaps more would stay home and not drive and drink from the bar.

Of course the only way you would get a new ABC store so close to an existing one is if they close the existing one. What you might see on the sign is a restaurant applying for an ABC license to serve alcohol in their establishment.

Okay, let me rephrase that … I have kids and I prefer businesses that cater to families … and like I said, we have enough liquor stores in Ashburn …

In Saint Louis, liquor is sold in Costco. Heaven.

IMHO, liquor stores very much cater to families.

Helps me and I would bet many others cope with their families! ;)

Oh, and how would a real estate office cater to your kids?

Having grown up in New Orleans, everywhere else in the country seems to have strict liquor laws. You can walk into a convenient store at 3am on Sunday and get a bottle of Jack. The rest of Louisiana is a little more strict, but still nothing compared to here. After moving to Virginia it took me a while to get used to finding only beer/wine in the grocery stores.

How so? Both establishments are capable of bringing an undesired element into your neighborhood.

In NY State - all the liquor stores are individually owned, not state owned, which makes it even more personal and friendly.

I would venture to say that most of the establishments in the area cater to families. However, there are singles and DINKS here too and it is nice to have a variety for everyone.

ps. I have a kid so don't throw things at me

What's a Dink? Last I knew, it was a racial slur for Vietnamese folk.

Unfortunatly, VA will **never** move out of the dark ages with the ABC stores - way too much tax revenue in it. Case in point - the large bottle of JD in VA is just under $50. At the liquor stores on Military bases - it's just over $20. So, guess where the rest of the cash goes?

Any idea what a large bottle of Tanqueray cost ya??

The one nice thing about the state stores is that they are well kept - have you seen some of the places in MD and DC - all the posters, papers hanging all over the outside of their buildings....

In general, the Military prices are about 1/2 the civilian prices. The discount gets a little less as the bottles get smaller.

So what, it's not like it a gentlemens' establishiment or a seedy pool hall. It's just an ABC store. I would much rather see that than another Starbucks.

Yeah. But it's still St. Louis.
