Anyone have any updates....it looks like there is a Target store planned for the Dulles 28 Center (across from Wegmans)...opening in 2007...cool! However, it also looks like another one is planned for Moorefield Station which will be near the LCP & Greenway junction. I wonder if this is still the plan...seems a little odd to have 2 Targets only a couple miles apart?

Also, we are relatively new to the area and noticing that there seem to be so many grocery stores in this area and even more opening soon. I sure hope we still can get fresh food with so many stores?

    Thanks for the info.

Plus, they're planning another at the corner of Evergreen Mills Rd (621) and Loudoun County Pkwy (606) just north of 50.

Two stores close to each other is not unusual for Target (kind of like Starbucks). Keep in mind there is also another one in Sterling.

As far as grocery stores. Yes there are plenty to choose from but we are sold on Wegmans. It's worth the trip over there. Prices are lower, service is better and the produce is fresh. Don't even bother with the local Safeway unless you just need to pop in for a couple of quick items. Even then they will most likely only have two cashiers open and it will take you 20 minutes just to get out.

And I feel the exact opposite - I hate Wegman's. It is always crowded, the parking is terrible and I always have to wait in line at the cashier's. I also don't agree that their prices are better - I didn't see a difference at all.

I know that a lot of people prefer Wegman's but I have never had a good experience there.

    Busy, yeah at certain times.

Parking is terrible? We have never had an issue with getting a parking spot even on the busiest days. Now, if you mean parking is terrible because you want to park close and avoid the 1 minute walk from the farther spots... ;)

We love Wegmans too! There was a news report that came out last week too that stated that Wegmans is 17% cheaper than Giant and 13% cheaper than Safeway. If you want to avoid the crowds, it's really light in the mornings and nights.

i love safeway- I never have a bad experience there. but i DO get produce from Wegmans instead- it's consistently better than safeway. wegmans deli meat/cheeses all the way, the meat dept at both are great- but the roasted chickens at Wegmans are too dry- safeway's win hands down. I have received nothing but good service at safeway and tend to see the longer lines at Wegmans. plus- I love the 6 cent gas discount from safeway- only once has the gas been just as expensive as other gas- we typically save.

I also think Safeway is really a good store with good service and either shop there or at Wegmans. I really do prefer the produce at Wegmans and think that most of their prices do beat Safeway (with the exception of the bakery & deli....though Wegmans does have more of a selection).

I really never go to Giant, Food Lion, Shoppers or Harris Teeter....anyone like any of them better? (I think Harris Teeter is the most expensive?)

I usually shop at either Wegmans or Safeway....I like Safeway for the convenience and also the 6 cent discount and also getting frequent flyer miles thru United everytime I shop. Giant's prices I've noticed are pretty high lately, with Harris Teeter close behind. I can't believe they're building another Giant over by Home Depot...don't know how all these stores are going to fare.....I've lived in Ashburn since 1988 and waited so long for the Giant to open in the Village....now look at what we've got!!!

We basically only go to Safeway, mostly for convenience, although we really like the place. I agree Harris Teeter is the most expensive. Went there once, plan on never going back.

Yes, I agree...sure seems like a lot of grocery stores. Too bad the Giant by Home Depot could not be a store like Bed Bath Beyond rather than another grocery store. AND there will be another Harris Teeter only about a mile away in Broadlands South.

I also read that Post article about Wegman's lower prices. Significantly lower.
I absolutely think that it is correct. I have 5 or 6 "sentinel" items that I buy and am able to remember the prices on. Wegmans is the lowest on every single one of them. For example: Pediasure 6 pack at Weg's is $9.99. At
Safeway it is usually close to $11.00. And the Wegman's Kids Club is awesome. What a great idea and convenience for parents with kids who drive them slowly insane while shopping. But, I do like the United FF miles at Safeway...

I love Wegmans, they have great product and their natural foods section is almost as good as Whole foods, but so much closer. There prices seem very good to me also. I also like Harris Teeter, but I agree that their prices are high. I never shop Safeway or Giant. Safeway seems very high on paper goods and neither store usually has most of what I need.

The 'secret' to Wegman's is to NOT turn to the right when you walk in the door. I think they make a lot of money on that side of the store helping to offset the lower grocery prices.

I love Wegman's, but my wife does not. I see her point this last Sunday when they had many of the isles blocked to stock shelves. It was busy Sunday and she had the kids in the car cart. Can you say 6 ft turning radius? I thought stores stocked shelves at night.

I like the train and the little mice drilling the holes in the cheese.

My wife and I love Wegman's but like Safeway as well. A note on Harris Teeter: The trick is to look at the sale flyer each week or just go in and shop only the sales. They have amazing sales on many dry products, salad dressings, and frequently 50% off meats. Overall their prices are expensive and we wouldn't use them for a general "need everything" run to the store.
My problem with Wegman's is that they sell lot's of brands but are frequently missing products within a brand that I enjoy and can find at Safeway, Giant, and Harris Teeter.

Actually, we were unable to find certain products at Wegmans and when we mentioned it to the cashier, they instructed us to go to Customer Service, fill out the feedback form, and request the brands/items we wanted. We did so, thinking we were just humoring ourselves, but about one week later we had a message on our answering machine from Wegmans customer service and they addressed every single brand/item we had on our list. They ended up stocking all but one brand that we were looking for! We were very impressed!

So, if you're looking for something in particular, I'd recommend filling out a customer service request form and list that item. Worked for us!

I should consider this - feedback form then. Wegman's had their own brand of frozen cookies that you just pop in the oven and were yummy afterwards - they no longer carry them because they were poor sellers. Of course - they kept changing the location of the cookies in the freezer section each time I sent so that could contribute to the lack of sales as well. It is a wegman's brand though so it could be a corporate decision.

YES!! those freezer to oven cookies at Wegs... we loved them.
I am really disappointed that they stopped carrying them... I guess we have to go back to mixing and freezing our own cookie dough.

    we only shop Wegmans now.
I might go to safeway or giant for a few things in a hurry, but their produce is inferior. Harris teeter, we never shop there. I agree, the prices are rediculously inflated.

The Giant in Ashburn Village is not so bad, and quite different/alot better than the one here in the Farm.

    Wegman's

I love Wegman's too, but i'm the kind of shopper that likes to get in and out. With Wegman's forget it. Even just shopping for the usual stuff takes alot of time -- the store is sooooooooo big! haha But their produce is top-notch - no one can touch it.
