    We ate dinner at Mexican Garden tonight again and it was good! Anyway, on the way home we needed to purchase gas; so we went to the Sterling Citgo 7/11 on Woodshire Drive (across from Costco in Sterling and Chesterbrook Academy in Sterling) and Regular Unleaded was $3.46/per gallon.

    Great prices and great place to fill up the gas tank if you do not use Costco. We use BJ's Wholesale Club in Fairfax (I fill up once a week when I shop at Fairfax Whole Foods Market). BJ's Club membership entitles members to 8 cents off regular prices which is better than other warehouse clubs' discount of 3 cents off usually.

    Just my 2 cents--:pofl::shakehead:

    Have a good weekend--

    I avoid Citgo gas as well, but that's where i used to get the cheapest gas in the area. But any gas station across from a Costco will have lower pricing...

    luckily i can find $50 worth non-perishable items to buy at safeway now and then to get the 10 to 20 cent discount per gallon. just avoid anything at safeway that could expire- we get burned every time we buy something there that has a date on it. even if it is BEORE the exp date, they go bad early- i think there are storage issues where perishables get hot then cold or vice versa depending which will do the most harm!

    buyer beware...

    Same goes for me. I don't care how cheap it is at Citgo.

    You'll generally find cheaper gas stations by wholesale clubs that have their own gas stations...but I'm sure that's not always the case.

    If you get the 20 cent discount at Safeway....I would say 3.26 is pretty cheap...now a days anyway....but no matter how you look at it - gas is expensive.....paying over $3.00 really hurts!

    The new Exxon On the Run gas station near Panera Bread has gas for $3.89. Either prices went down a few cents or the gas station is running a special for their grand opening (I think that's a new grand opening sign, even though they have been open for a while.).

    actually, it's $3.98. Still cheaper then most places around here. I still think they're keep it low on purpose. New station in town. Wants to get people hooked on the "convenience" of that gas station...then POOF, they'll wind up being higher then everywhere else. Shell by the ice rink did the same thing. Might as well get it while the gettin's good though.

    The Exxon gas prices by Panera are the same (so far as I've seen on any day) as at the "established" Exxon station by CVS in the Farmwell Hunt Plaza. Not sure about *right this minute* but several times last week my route took me past both and the prices were the same, and both had lowest in the area (unless you count the 20-cent discount at Safeway with $50 grocery purchase, which put safeway about 4 or 5 cents per gallon cheaper).

    my guess is its to avoid possible collusion conspiracies, etc. They still make money on the wholesale. People have pointed out the wholesale side still has predictable margins, while the retail side is pinched... hard to pass rising costs to consumers so their margins are way down.

    Why float those investments when you can have more stable money just on the wholesale and distribution side?

    They say less then 5% of stations in the country are owned by the big oil companies.

    I stand corrected. I guess you're right. Since it's their "Grand Opening", they lowered prices. I wasn't aware of that. We did take advantage of it today.

    Yesterday, I went to pump gas at the new Exxon station. Gave $80 ( 4 $20 bills) cash and started pumping. Pump stopped at $59.50. When I went in to get the change of $20.50, that lady argued stating that I gave her only $60. The manager came and ran a report, counted the cash and told me they are $76 short and therefore, I gave only $60. I didn't see any logic in what he said. I kept telling him that it was probably $96 short and with my extra 20, now it is 76 short. He had no clue of logical thinking. I had to finally let that $20 go. Maybe, they keep lower gas prices and make up the loss by cheating customers.
