Whether it be ON the 4th of July, before or after, please share all the events you know of going on in the region. Personally I'm looking for events that are close to home and suitable for preschoolers. But that is just me... please post any and all you know about for everyone to enjoy. Thanks!

we're actually looking the opposite- we find orselves kid-less on the 4th but would rather not deal with DC being a zoo...

We go to the 4th of July celebration at Ida Lee in Leesburg once in a while. The fireworks are always great (choreographed to music), there's lots of great food, and it's decent to get in and out of. We usually park in the downtown neighbordhood. http://www.idalee.org/parks/events/July4th/

Dulles Towncenter is not too bad. They have moon bounces and the like, live music and food vendors in the parking lot by Macy's/Dick's/Cheesecake Factory and a decent fireworks display.

One fun thing to do at Dulles Town Center's event is to park near Hadley's Playground near the condos, set up a picnic on the town green/pitch thing, and let the little ones run themselve ragged on the playground prior to the fireworks. In fact......if its not raining tonite I think that's what we're going to do!!

The Leesburg Fourth of July Parade is at 10am starting at Ida Lee and going down to the Safeway. I'll be marching if my knee is holding up.

Has anyone bought fireworks yet for their backyard displays? I'm looking for some good (legal) fireworks to purchase. My son will not feel up to traveling after having his tonsils out on Thursday. :fever:

A word of warning about fireworks, even the "safe" legal kind here in Virginia.
My son lit one of the "safe" smoke bombs and stepped back several feet away.
A cinder still managed to shoot out and hit him in the eye, blistering his cornea.
He came 2mm away from losing his sight.
    Please be careful!!

Of course...don't worry, I always keep everyone far away, including myself. But I hope everyone else reading this will heed the word of caution :signsplease:

I think the best bang for the buck :)tgif:) is to get one of the large boxes of fireworks from Costco... if you are a member. By far, you get the most stuff and if you go for one of the larger ones, you have a couple of pretty decent sized fountains with great effects.

What I usually do is buy one of the mid-sized Costco boxes, then go local to one of the curb-side dealers a day before the 4th and buy a couple of big ones for the finale

Or come over and bring the beer
