looked like a bad accident today around 11am Claiborne and Waxpool. Minivan was flipped upside down. Anyone know what happened or if anyone was seriously hurt? How many more accidents need to happen before something is done?

My neighbor saw it happen. A truck swiped the minivan knocking it over. 2 adults were inside, both were walking after the accident so I hear. The truck was not damaged much at all, just clipped the minivan evidently. Can't wait until that light goes in there.

Interesting. I passed through the intersection a few times today at various times, and I wondered why someone's possessions (lots!) were in the median and on the south side of the intersection. It looked like one person had taken someone else's possessions and thrown them out of the house. Otherwise I never saw any evidence of an accident. Later in the afternoon I saw 3 police cars picking everything up and putting it in plastic garbage bags.

The light can't come soon enough.

We had guests coming to visit, and they saw it, too. Their comment was, "How can such a nice community not have very basic things like signal lights in intersections?"

I am also very glad to hear that Claiborne/Waxpool is getting a light some time soon (not sure when). Claiborne/Broadlands will have to wait until some time in 2005, though, right? Does anyone know why this is the case?

Was one making a turn and the other going straight ?? The reason I ask is that the description (one swiped the other) does not give an idea of which way each vehicle was moving.

    Thanks,

I agree that we need lights at these intersections. But with that said, I will wait patiently for the first thread complaining about the light cycles or the first accident where somewhere runs a red light. :D

I can't figure out how to link to another thread, but if you look back in this topic to May 12, you'll see a thread "any change of light at the safeway interestection?". In that, MaryJo said "This came up at the Homeowners' Association meeting last night. They said that there are no plans for a light at Claiborne and Broadlands to be put in before 2005. It's still in the application process. A light will be coming to Waxpool and Claiborne some time this summer. Also, Broadlands Boulevard will be extended to Belmont Ridge at some point (I didn't hear when)."

There are other posts that describe the application and approval process in more detail, but I can't find them at the moment. It's a process that takes considerable time (like 18 months or more).

Yup, it was another accident. My wife called me because she was stuck at the intersection while they were directing traffic around the wrecks.
    That's 2 in only a 4 day period.

Good.. maybe Darwin will save this community yet and all the people who can't drive will loose their cars...

Tell me about it. I was approaching that intersection yesterday and saw not one, but 2 cars cross Waxpool within about 20 seconds of each other. They both cut in front of vehicles on Waxpool and almost caused accidents.

It's pretty scary how people's impatience and inability to determine right-of-way can lead to such chaos.

One of my major concerns is the people speeding down Waxpool. The posted speed limit is 35mph, if people would obey that I bet many of these accidents could be avoided.

I think there was another accident but this time at Waxpool and Demott. Saw the sheriff in a SUV and then remains of tail lights on the ground. Looking a bit dangerous at Clairborne and Waxpool.

Yes there was, shortly after 9 am today. It looked like several vehicles were involved, but I’m not sure. I couldn’t tell what happened but no one appeared injured. They did however tow away at least one of the cars, a big Ford SUV.

    GOOD NEWS!

My wife just called me and told me they are hanging 4-way stop signs at the intersection of Waxpool and Claiborne. [8D]

Everyone be careful driving home today! What's the over/under on how long it will be before the first accident due to someone blowing through the sign on Waxpool? [B)]
