Has anyone heard anything through the grapevine as to whether or not the driver of the car involved in last night's crash has been identified/found? We stayed on our deck for quite a while last night watching, and the sheriff's brought out the K9 unit, but they sped off with the dog still in the car down to the end of Village.

    Just curious....

Was wondering that myself. The impact was loud enough to wake me up out of a dead sleep when it happened.

Did someone report it, or was it a hit and run? I saw the owner of the van out there this AM taking pictures. That's too bad.

It was reported. The owner of the van is my next door neighbor, so the impact literally sounded like an explosion. I ran downstairs and onto the deck and was on the phone with 911 within 90 seconds of the accident. There was quite a crowd down there by that point. The operator asked me if an ambulance was needed, and when I yelled down to the street I was surprised by the answer that the driver had taken off. By look of his car, I don't see how that was even possible. The Sheriff's officers were on scene within just a few minutes, and even had the K9 unit out. It was quite an interesting scene.

I live right off village drive and also heard the crash. When I drove by the van yesterday, the damage did not look too bad. I had heard it was a hit and run, but from the above description it sounds like the vehicle was left and the driver fled the scene.

I only ask mention this because I was passed on Waxpool yesterday evening by a car with damage to it's right front corner and scrapes down the paseenger side of the car. There was bare metal showing, but no rust, as if the damage was recent. While the front corner had damage to the bumper and fender, the vehicle was easily drivable. It made me think of this accident enough that I have the make/model and license plate of that car. But if the driver left on foot, then this information is not needed as the vehicle remained at the accident.

If the vehicle drove away, please let me know and I will provide the information I have.

Sorry for the confusion. The vehicle left, and the driver fled the scene. His car was towed away from Village. I was amazed that the neighbors van was able to be driven, given how hard the impact was. Guess it goes to show that those big old cars were really made to withstand some impact.

for those of us not on village... can you describe what happened? We're only hearing snips about the aftermath.. not what actually happened

Certainly.....about 10:30 on Monday night, there was a very loud screech, and then what sounded like an explosion, followed by a car alarm going off. I ran downstairs to the main level of my townhouse to see that a GMC Jimmy had slammed into my neighbors 77 Econoline van (the van was parked on the street) hard enough to push it about 25 feet, and up onto the sidewalk. In the time it took me to go from my upstairs out onto the deck, the driver of the Jimmy had fled the scene, leaving a trail of blood down the sidewalk, but was hard to follow in the dark on the street. The Sheriffs office brought out the K9 unit to track it, but we have not heard at this time if the driver was apprehended.

I am assuming that they have been since the officers had their license plate number and all. One of the neighbors saw the driver walking around, because he was bleeding profusely and asked him if he was ok, but then he took off running.

Odds are alcohol was involved for him to leave the scene like that.

Or illegal immigrant, or uninsured. People have all kinds of reasons for not wanting to get caught.

But you're probably right, why else would you plow into a parked vehicle.

Also if a serious crime had been committed be careful about how much information you post about your location in a public forum...

Nope. The police told the neighbor whose property was damaged that he had been caught but there were no other details released to him.
