I'm thinking of adding a gas fireplace to the lowest level of my townhouse. Has any one had any experience with a contractor or fireplace company that did a terrific job??

You might consider DC Logs, Inc.
    Toll free #: 877-4DCLOGS
They do residential but also have commercial experience.

American Chimney located in Purcellville. They offer a varied selection of stoves; gas, wood pellet, regular wood stoves, log, and log sets. When we opted for another brand they didn't carry, (with a 50% turn down) they contacted the manufacturer and ordered it for us wholesale.
