I see more and more airport police on the toll road. Last I heard, that was out of their jurisdiction since they had a very narrowly defined scope.

It appears that's changed. Anyone know the real scoop?

UPDATE: Never mind... I see by statute the toll road is the jurisdiction of the Airport Police, VSP and Fairfax. They also have jurisdiction on the airport access road. Throught it was intresting that Loudoun County does not have jurisidiction on the toll road.

If you think about it, once you get on the Toll Road going East from 28, that's all Fairfax County.

Also as part of the states transfer to MWAA of the Dulles Toll Road the information indicated the MWAA Police would become the primary law enforcement on the DTR with the others as backup. I too have seen more HOV enforcement, etc from these folks. They are supposed to hire an additional 12 officiers I think I read for the DTR.

It wouldnt surprise me if they are being more aggessive to make a little more money for their budgets and the airports authority's pocket.

They are always out in force. Speeders and HOV people beware.

Forget the wolfpack on the access road once a month... they'll be picking off the HOV people now. Much easier and probably more lucrative.

The biggest issue with the toll road traffic (imo), or any traffic for that matter, isn't the volume so much as the erratic drivers jumping from one lane into the next when their lane isn't moving fast enough. So they cause the car they cut off to slam on the breaks and it slows everyone down for miles. Second to that are the reckless tailgaters who ride everyone's bumpers, and as a result, constantly ride their brakes - again, causing traffic to stop and go.

These are the drivers who should get ticketed!

Just yesterday, I saw an airport police car pull someone over on the toll road, after I had been thinking they wouldn't possibly have any jurisdiction... was wondering what was going on. Interesting!

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I'm ok with improving safety because some people drive like complete lunatics and the texters should be shot on site!

The other side of me feels this is just another way MWAA is using their "police" force to increase it's revenue.

I take Rt 7 to Dranesville. Dranesville to Sugarland. Sugarland to E Church..takes you right into Farmville Road.

Most days...it's a heck of a lot faster and generally safer.

waxpool to rt 28 to old ox to herndon parkway is viable as well.

but any of the routes through herndon/sterling add significantly more time. however with the toll hike I expect them to surge in usage. The problem is all of the routes go through residential areas unless you go to Rt 7. Rt 7 is so far out of the way for the south edge of the community and has it's own problems getting through the lights at sterling.

Just think... soon it will cost almost $7/trip to go from greenway to toll road. That's insane.. that's like NYC tunnel money.

I saw an airport police car pull over someone going no more than 60 the other day. He had just completed writing a ticket on the shoulder, pulled on and then caught up to a car that had just slowly passed me (I was doing exactly 55), got even with him to pace him and then pulled him over.

How much you want to bet that all that ticket revenue goes back to the airport authority? When you don't understand something...follow the money.
