Apologize up fron tfor the long post but any help or suggestions would be helpful.

We are having on and off issues with our phone line (recently upgraded to FIOS 1 month) when someone calls us from outside. Sometimes the phone will ring only 2 times and a message appears on the phone display no line. If you answer on the first or second ring you can have a conversation but if you pick it up after the 2 ring you can't hear anybody and eventually dsisconnects. Other times it will ring normally up to 4 times and you can pick-it up as normal before the answering machine picks up.

Verzion came out and tested the line and different circuits inside the house and now states that it's an issue with the Brink's Security modem line that has a short in it. Before Brinks comes out to fix it it will be $105 plus $35 for an additional 30 minutes since we don't have a service plan with them.

I'm not sure whether to believe the Verizon technician and have Brink's come out and be in the hole for $150+ and then find out it's not a modem issue but a Verizon issue.

Anyway I hosed because I need to get the phone line fixed and the alarm system working properly any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Genco

I'm not a technician, but I'd place my bets with Verizon. Ever since we had FIOS installed, our internet AND phone go dead DAILY around 3-4pm for about 1-3 hours (sometimes in mid conversation). It eventually comes back up on its own. We've made a ton of calls to Verizon and each time they set up an appt with a technician. EVERY time the technician is scheduled to arrive, they never show. Why? Because they test the line before they come out and it happens to be up, so they close the ticket/cancel the service request. I've missed two days of work because of this crap. So, now we keep logs of how often it's going down and call Verizon once a month (btw--they have one of THE most frustrating voice response systems ever!) and request a refund. It's been quite a thorn for us. When it's up and working, it's great though.

Update, it appears to be the brinks modem line based upon initial tests. After a second and third call to Brinks I finally found someone who is sending a tech out tomorrow to look at it and determine if it needs to be replaced so far at no cost. Nothing like losing the monthly monitoring fee to get them moving.
