In the attic I put a Winegard HD6055P FM antenna (around $80), with a 15dB amplifier. The attic was prewired for coax. Originally I installed this to get a cleaner signal for WBJC out of Baltimore, truly a wonderful classical station. WBJC is also available online, but the sound quality is notably worse than FM.

About half a year ago we cut off Comcast (again). No love lost there, and the rates were just getting ridiculous.

When we get weather, we tended to lose 61 which would drop for 1-3 seconds. Today arrived a Winegard "Free Vision", which is indoor/outdoor $40 from Costco. It was well reviewed on Costco, and in correspondence with Winegard they said they were surprised the FM antenna even worked. I tested it in the family room for the time being.

Well, the attic antenna still greatly surpasses the small "Free Vision". Attached are the results, and the results also from an online calculator which told the stations we are supposed to be able to get (with a proper antenna). I'm not sure if the big antenna gets 30.1-30.5, I think it did but I deleted those. They also mention a few stations that do not seem to show up with either antenna.

I was wondering if anyone had luck with other antennas, and how these results compare.

I'll probably try putting the small antenna in the attic to get another set of data points eventually.
