Hello - Doing intial research on replacing our 10+ year old kitchen appliances (which are white) and considering black, stainless or titanium?

Have heard that black shows dust & water marks easily but stainless shows fingerprints and not magnetic (we really depend on a family calendar which currently hangs on refrig).

Am always bothered by the look of fingerprints/smudges on our stainless trash can so leaning toward black but not sure?
Maybe there are more ideal other textures/finishes of stainless and black?

    Any comments/suggestions appreciated?
    Thank you much!

For Stainless you need to get the spray can of Weiman Stainles Steel Cleaner and Polisher. It is magic, and cleans our stainless trash can and micorwave right up. IT also repels dust and dirt and once on, resists fingerprints, water spots, and grease. Safeway and Harris Teeter sell it.

Yes, Stainless is not magnetic (just tested it on my microwave). Our family calendar was always up on the interior wall facing the desk in the kitchen. That spot works well and the kids always know to look there, too.

I've had black appliances in both of my last two houses, I have two little one with grubby fingers, and truth be told I often open my fridge while cooking with grubby fingers of my own! The fingerprints aren't bad at all. If you look hard enough you can certainly find one or two, but I don't think it's bad.

Kenmore (and maybe some other brands?) have a stainless-look finish that IS magnetic. Sears calls theirs Ultra Satin and SilverSteel. From what I've heard, these finishes are also not as prone to fingerprints, etc, as true stainless. And I've always had great experiences with Kenmore appliances as far as reliability goes.

I have an LG refrigerator in the Titanium finish. It has an almost brushed look to it that doesn't show fingerprints as easily as stainless steel. It's also magnetic on the front. One of the things I liked about the LG is that the plastic(?) sides are a gray color rather than black, and since one side is visible to the family room, that was important to our choice. Apparently many stainless steel fridges have black sides.

Dalyn thought I was losing my mind as I started to clean everything stainless steel in the whole house with this stuff it is like addictive it cleans so well and our range was really a mess with heavy grease and bammm it was gone in no time and looks brand new again :clap::clap::clap::clap:

you Giddy Guy! Actually, Sharse was the first one who told me about it so kudos have to go to her too, but yep that stuff is truly amazing!

On another note, where did you get your appliances, I'm looking at a new Thermador oven and fridge and a Viking cook top online, but don't know where to get them around here!

Well then thank you Sharse also this stuff is unbelievable.:clap: I just can't believe how easy it cleans and shines up the stainless steel. Well like a miracle. I just redid some of the appliances just to make them even more perfect not because they needed it after cleaning them into the late late night last night. It is just too much fun to see how good this stuff works and it really does resist finger prints and streaks Now Dalyn has been doing a search for mental hospitals ha ha ha ha thinks I have gone a little wacky cleaning appliances over and over again when they don't need it anymore ha ha:happygrin:

Well Brassy the viking stuff came straight from viking itself, they give special deals to people in the business sometimes  but not always
A few of my builder clients / friends buy from this auction over in Maryland and have found some incredible deals on almost any building product over there, including viking and all the big names. The problem is being there at the times that they have what you want . I will post the name and address of this place when I get it from one of my builder buddies. Not sure they let the general public in. Never been there myself.

Also have bought a lot of stuff over the years from Appliance connection down in woodbridge especially when they have their special sales several times a year on floor models etc. http://www.applianceconnection.net/

Other then that it is the normal outlets for these appliances and look for the sales or search the internet:happygrin:

Viking can be a tough one to find a real good deal on tho but not impossible.

    Re: Appliance Questions?

    vdb and others--

We bought some of our "restaurant-type" appliances from Hadco in Sterling, VA and Bray and Scarff in Frederick, MD. With a large family of 8 and alot of family--we got some great deals with these companies. Great service also and great showrooms.

    Web sites are below--

    www.hadco.net (Hadco's site.)

    www.brayandscarff.com (Bray & Scarff's site.)

we just replaced our almond appliances with LG stainless, and we bought some stainless cleaner that is great- i'll into the kitchen tomorrow to see what it is but it's in s silver spray bottle and came with a soft cloth. we have very few smudges b/c my son has learned to use the handles ONLY by pain of torture or death.

we had black appliances in the past and yes- the smudges were worse than stainless and i could never seem to rub them out.

we have black galaxy granite and did consider black since the kitchen gets a lot of light, but i'm really glad we went with stainless. AND LG- nice style and great sales right now!
