Now that the post office recognizes 20148 as Broadlands, VA are we required to use that in our address or do we keep it Ashburn, VA or does it not matter?

Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Don't Brambleton residents use Brambleton, 20148? Does city name not matter anymore, only zip code? Aren't we all still really "Ashburn"? Is this just the USPS? What about UPS & FedEX? This is all so confusing!

I just went to the post office and put my address in as if I were trying to find a zip. I put in Ashburn, VA. When it gave me the full address, it changed Ashburn to Broadlands...so I guess we need to change all our stuff. What a pain in the wazoo!

Last post by me...sorry. I called the post office and she said "you can do whatever you want, your mail will eventually get to you, for now anyway". Ah, the joys of calling our local lazy people at the post office.

Lazy? Those people at the post office work very hard...it wasn't their decision to make this change, and they're having to deal with it on a grander scale than everyone else. Cut them some slack...

I'm sorry, Brim. You're right, most of them work hard. I agree! There is one particular person (the one who answered the phone this morning) who, in fact, is quite lazy. I've dealt with this person on many occasions and the eye rolling, huffing and blowing me off is pure laziness in my opinion. My apologies to the rest of the Ashburn post office.

    FWIW ..

YOU DON"T HAVE TO CHANGE EVERYTHING OVER !!!

The only place right now that recognizes Broadlands is the Post Office. Everyone else, recognizes ASHBURN. Its the same with Brambleton (which is under the Ashburn Post Office) and Landsdowne (will falls under Leesburg).

You go to Mapquest, put in your street and zip code, and it will pop up Ashburn, The post office will use whatever the zip code says ... 20148 is any where south of the Greenway most of the way to Arcola I believe, and its all Ashburn. The person at the post office is right, you can use either name and your mail will get to you.

If we ever get our own Post Office, and our mail will then be sorted and dispatched from there, then we will need to change to Broadlands.

Until that time, Ashburn and Broadlands will be interchangable.

I see no reason to go to every bank, firm, Credit Card company etc, and change a name that really doesn't do anything but bend to vanity.

It kinda seems pointless to me. Ashburn/Broadlands/whatever... confusion for no apparent reason. Anybody know the history on this issue? The cynic in me guesses it's so the developers can charge more for real estate... [:0]

BTW - they must not pay too much attention to the city name, because for a few weeks this summer I was getting mail addressed to someone in Brambleton. They had the same street number, with a street that started with the same letter as mine. After it was RE-delivered to me a second time, I brought it over there, and saw that it was one of the first houses on a brand new street.

I'm in Brambleton. I use Brambleton when mailing cards (personal type of mail) but generally put Ashburn for other correspondence and when ordering stuff because most address reconciliation systems do not have Brambleton associated with the 20148 ZIP code. I've been in Brambleton for 2 years now and it's still the case. My husband calls Brambleton a "vanity" address, sort of like Oak Hill (rather than say Herndon). I do know that in the case of Brambleton, it is something the developer applied for and was granted from USPS; also, it did appear in their marketing when I bought my house.

You're correct, the Developer is the one that made this change. We, the HOA, weren't even aware of it.

I really don't think it matters what city you use. Everything is sorted by Zip Code. But just to be a fly in the ointment, what about us Broadlanders who live north of the Greenway? Our Zip Code is 20147. Are we being exiled? Will we be forced to suffer the embarrassment of being associated with the commoners of Ashburn? Oh the humiliation!

Yep ... Overland Park might just as well be Outland Park for you're on the wrong side of the tracks, er Greenway, and must still use Ashburn.
