About 1/2 hour ago, up on the 2nd level my daughter and I heard a metal clanking noise. After turning of both condensers and switching the HVAC fans to auto it was still there. I pulled downt the attic stairs and wow it was loud...and coming from the small attic fan in the roof! I switched it off and got as close to viewing it as I could, with the limited platform around the HVAC unit. It appears that something is on one of the blades, causing it to be unbalanced.

Who should I call for this type of an issue?

I would call B&B Air Conditioning and Heating. They did a great job servicing our units and we signed a contract to have the heater, AC and attic fan to be under contract/maintenance with them for one year.

Brassy, judging by what you said so far, I would think you could get a closer inspection yourself (kaos?) and see of there is something you could do to clean it or remove debris. It is not too hard to climb the beams and rafters, but that would be the hard part. Or get close and try to reach it with something, if there is a way to possibly remove debris if it is there. Could be a pretty expensive service call for something simple... Those attic fans are not that expensive new, but a pain to install.

Um..it was a bird. Note I said **WAS**. I suspect it was flayed & mummified within days.

Anyway - all cleaned out, fan running AC humming.

    Ew...just.....ew.

You may want to call B&B to ask for a price range. Twice a year and any immediate emergency and parts replacement $400. This is an extensive contract and it covers lots of items.
