I was driving south on Belmont Ridge yesterday morning and saw a bald eagle near that auction building by intersection with Waxpool. I didn't realized there were bald eagles around here.

There are! Although, spotting one is still not a common occurence. There's a nest near Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg. The couple have been working on their nest and might have eggs by now. Seeing one is always a thrill!

I see one every once in a while by the small lake next to AOL just off Waxpool... he flies over the road as I drive by on occasion. I think it is in his territory.

I was fishing in Beaverdam Creek Reservoir last summer and was pretty sure I saw (and heard) one flying over the water. I think it was a jouvenile. Has anyone else seen them over there?

Yep, they are there also. The Resevoir is close enough to the nest and it's great fishing. There are also some over at Elizabeth Mills Riverfront Park in Landsdowne. I saw two adults and three juvies there last year. Anywhere there is water, there is a good possibility they are around.

I believe there still are nesting grounds on the west side of Beaverdam Reservoir. A couple of years ago, I saw a bald eagle flying south on Belmont Ridge Road (south of Mt Hope) and took a not-so-perfect picture from my blackberry....and after looking at it...was surprised to see that it was actually carrying a small fish!!

I have seen one flying over my house several times. I have a pond behind us that the eagle visits.
