    The only ones I have used are the ones off of 28 between the mall and waxpool. I don't know of any closer

    there are a couple...the one listed above is at the Dulles Golf Center (http://www.dullesgolfcenter.com). This one is outside and has both softball and baseball with different speeds. They have helmets and bats available, or you can bring your own. You need to buy tokens in the clubhouse before using.
    There is another outside one at Woody's Golf in Herndon (near Sterling off Rt. 7). The website is http://www.woodysgolf.com/ and they also have a killer miniature golf course.
    There is also an indoor one at Diamond Sports Training in Sterling (http://www.diamondsportstraining.com/). Not exactly sure if they have "open bat time" or if you need to reserve a lane or anything, but you can check out the site and see.
