    Carolina Bros. Opening New Restaurant

    By Tammi Marcoullier at 12:55 p.m., December 5, 2007
This is big news for the local restaurant business and tasty news for barbeque lovers: Loudoun's famous Carolina Brothers Pit Barbeque on Ashburn Road will soon open its own restaurant.
Owners Danny and Mary Anne Hurdle have had their catering business here for 25 years and bought the Partlow Bros. store next to the W&OD Trail two years ago.
On Tuesday, Danny said the building inspectors were on site for a final inspection, and once the health department goes in Thursday and gives the OK, the Hurdles will put in the tables and chairs. "You should see it now, we took out a temporary wall last night," said Danny. "Inside, it's old, but clean."

Carolina Brothers Pit Barbeque is putting the finishing touches on its new restaurant in the old Partlow Bros. building in Old Ashburn.

Initally there will be seating for 24, but there is room to expand. "Olde Mill Furniture, next door, gave me chairs and an old table -- distressed wood," said Danny.
The restaurant menu includes their specialty, pork barbeque, plus beef and chicken, baby-back ribs, baked beans, potato salad, slaw, cakes and pies. The goal is to have the restaurant open in a couple weeks, but right now they're open for cary-out business. Danny says the timing is right with the cold weather because unlike summer, they can't put everyone at the picnic tables.
The Hurdles are not worried about the lack of traffic into Old Ashburn, "I knew when we bought the building they were closing the road [to Rt. 7]," Danny said. The family has lived in Loudoun for 27 years, seven in Sterling and the last 20 in Ashburn Farm, and the Hurdles are still meeting new people every day.
"So many people come in here who have never been before," said Danny. Soon, they'll be able to enjoy the meal right in the heart of town.

What happened to Partlows? I went there once a few years ago and they seemed to be a great butcher shop. Went back again about two years ago (probably when they were being bought) and the service and meats were severely lacking.
