Bear sighting-Ashburn Farm and Courts/ Ridges

Looks like there is a lost furry animal in the area. Got this from the Ashburn Farm e-mail alert:

The Association Office has received three calls this morning (6-9-08) from homeowners in Ashburn Farm - specifically in the Wayside Circle and Misty Meadow Court Areas who spotted a small black bear (the first homeowner saw the animal climb a fence and head into the wooded area).

Animal Care and Control (703-777-0406) and the Sheriff's Department was notified by the homeowners as well as by the Association Office. Ashburn Farm Community Policing Officer was also notified and has been checking the area.

Also, from the Courts and Ridges alert system:

Please be aware that a resident saw an adult bear that ran across Claiborne Pkwy in towards Dear View Drive around 8.45am this morning. The resident stated "this guy was nearly as big as my car….and moving fast….several cars almost crashed into one another trying to avoid hitting him."

The resident called 911 and the dispatcher said she would update Animal Control.
