Beginner Chess Program

    Description: This is an instructional course for beginner players. Children will learn the game of chess in one week. Chess Federation Boards will be utilized during all sessions.

    Instructor: Erin Peavornick. She is an elementary school teacher (currently finishing her Master's Degree) and chess player for last 10 years. Erin has organizes chess clubs and chess tournaments for children in the PA area. She also teaches this class to teachers so they can implement this program in their own classes. Erin is a fun and energetic teacher that will have no problem holding your child's attention with her enthusiasm and knowledge for the game.

    When: Week of August 14th, Monday through Friday

    Who: Children of grades 1-3 will be held from 3:30-5pm and grades 4-6 will be held from 5-6:30pm. Fourteen children will be enrolled in grades 1-3, and 20 in grades 4-6. Payment is due by August 7th. Residents of Broadlands will be $120.00 for the week and $130.00 for non-residents for the week.

    Where: Broadlands Community Center, 43004 Waxpool Road, Ashburn, VA

    Benefits: Critical thinking skills, higher test scores on state tests, increased attention span, and improved math skills.
