I recently took my son to Great Clips for a haircut. I should have trusted the gut feeling that I had and just walked away - but due to the convenience and the fact that my son was willing to get his haircut, we went in. The place was packed so we had to wait for 20 minutes (they don't take appointments). Within 5 minutes of sitting in the chair, my son's hair looked like his best friend had cut it (mind you, he is 4). The hair stylist (if you can call her that) asked if I wanted a typical boy’s haircut, I said yes. There was nothing typical about what his head looked like. It was SO uneven - he even had bare spots where she got too close with the clippers. I should have known something was up when she was shaking while cutting his hair.
After paying $30 to get it fixed at another place, I have learned my lesson. For $6.99 expect to get what you pay for!! Never again!!

Broadlands Barber shop is a great place. Hien is excellent. Haven't been there in a while due to my schedule. Also an old barber of my mine has opened a new shop in the office buildings behind Panera Bread. It's on the side closest to the Greenway. There's a nail salon next to it. Try out John. THE BEST BARBER SHOP SETUP I HAVE EVER SEEN. Flat screen monitors everywhere. Very comformable chairs. Very upscale. Just my $.02 worth.

yeah, my experience with my three boys was slightly unpleasant too. The appointment to get theirs fixed is tomorrow night at another place.

I actually had a good experience yesterday with my son & daughter. The asian guy that works there has cut my 2.5 yr olds hair 2 times and has done a good job - and the boy actually sits and enjoys:) The daughter was easy but they were great. No wait. Cheaper than cartoon cuts..but it probably depends on who you have cutting the hair!

    I second that.

I was thinking about giving Sport Clips another try recently. I had a bad experience before. However, after reading this new review, I will stay FAR, FAR away.

Great clips is terrible!! My husband went in a for a haircut and came out looking like a marine. It was awful!! He said that if he had not asked the guy to stop with the clippers he would have shaved all his hair off. Won't go there again.

They been cutting my hair for over an year now the one over by linen and things and once at the new place. Never had a problem. Then again my hair is hard to mess up as it grows at the speed of light. Even had it to my shoulders a couple of years ago.:) You know the aging surfer dude look or aging rock star. I wish. Dalyn told me if I went anywhere near the drums at our party she would well I can't repeat it here on these forums ha ha ha But it was ok for her and her girl friends to go up and sing and Larisa even played the drums and I couldn't:mad: Funny thing my clients thought I must be real creative with all that hair ha ha ha ha. Go figure:) Now it is sort of normal length whatever that is.

Good place to get a hair cut and way cool inside so you won't even notice if they screw it up.:)

We took our son there a few weeks ago, and got a very good little boy cut. I was very happy with it for the price.

I never go to places that do walkins, for myself or my 14 year old daughter (who has the thickest most beautiful hair ever). We go to a salon. I realize for some that is over the top, and for simple little boy cuts, you should be able to trust anyone with a license. BUT being on the bad end of a bad haircut too many times, I will pay for a good cut.

I had a really bad experience there.

I sit in the chair. Stylist: "what number are you"
    me: huh
Stylist: clipper number, hmmm, you look like a 3.
    me: Gulp, what
me: Can't you use scissors like most places?
stylist: I cant see very well so I shouldn't use them.
    me: Gulp, ok
After about 20 minutes of dog grooming, I looked ready for the armed forces.

She tried to use the scissors and cut herself. Only I did not know it becuase she kept going. After I noticed blood in my hair I asked her to get a band-aid. She did; I left.

    Swell. :rolleyes3:

I've tried the basic salons (Hair Cuttery, Fantastic Sams, etc.) and the more expensive places and came to the conclusion that the important thing is the stylist, not the salon. I now go to an inexpensive salon but always use the same, good stylist. That's just my two cents.

I have to give Divine Salon in the shopping center next to Foster's Grill a big giant thumbs up!! I hate to pay 75 buck for a haircut, but always regret the places that charge 15. My neighbor turned me on to Divine about 6 months ago and they do a high end salon quality shampoo, cut and dry for about $35. They do take appts., but I always get in within the hour! I recently took my three children, and they did an EXCELLENT job! I think the kids cuts were around $14 which is more than Great Clips but not when you consider the fact that you get a great haircut and there are no band aids needed or bald spots!! They charged slightly more for my older daughter, who has enough hair for ten people and needed a wash and blow dry.

My husband goes there and hasn't had a problem, and I've taken my girls there for trims twice. But, after hearing about the cut finger and having to be told to get a band-aid...I think we may find someplace new!

Maybe I'm just one of the clueless, but I almost never have had someone use scissors for anything more than my bangs. Not to mention, I don't have that much time / patience to sit around while some one snips.

As for the blood / hair thing, that would need to be reported, at a minimum to that management, and possible to the state, since there are public health implications.

I am speaking about men/boy haircuts, but I would recommend you use the Barber in Ashburn Village, where the Giant is located...right next to California Tortilla. They are great and always super quality. Also, if you know what I am talking about, the best part is the warm-lather shave they do at the end on the neck... that is really old school.

All the barber's there are great and it is #13...

I use the Ashburn Village Barber shop and they are very good. Very attentive. A good cut. The shave is nice.

I wouldn't go to Great Clips just due to them putting that guy out at the corner near Home Depot in that big foam ten gallon hat and vest with the Great Clips sign. He must get a full ration of demeaning comments while on that gig. Anyone who has got to do that to attract a customer must have a quality of service problem.
