Don't call your realtor, we are not 1%ers. :confdrop:

My wife and I just moved into Broadlands and from what we see so far, really like it. I sort of stumbled across this forum and after reading through many of the posts I just wanted to say hello and ask a question.

We own a couple of motorcycles and were wondering about other bikers in the area. I noticed at least a couple while reading posts so I thought I would start a thread to see if there are others.

I have lived in VA on an off for 30 years so I know how great riding can be here but, my wife has never ridden in VA before so, she is in for a treat when the weather improves.

If there are any organized riding groups in the area, please let me know. If there aren't we aren't against getting together with disorganized groups either. We have two rules about who we ride with though:

    1. No Drugs!!
    2. No unsafe, moronic, deathwish, makes us all look bad bikers.

That said, any bikers in the area?

    HERE! OVER HERE!

I'm an "Experienced Noob" with a '96 Honda Magna that is currently undergoing some "enhancements." I'd love to find some folks who can go on short to medium hops on weekends and offer tips.

If you go to the bike shop in Leesburg, they have a local shop that customizes bikes, you may have luck there finding some bikers.

I'm not really a biker... but I ride a big ugly Honda for a daily commuter. HOV rules!

    SV1000 rider here

There is a sportbike forum where most of the members are in NOVA.
    dcsportbikes.net

A lot of the members are in the Loudoun/Fairax area. In fact the site owner lives in Ashburn Village.

Once the weather gets warm they will post up group rides. While most of the rides are casual rides, there are some that are more aggressive. There are a few cruiser riders that are members of the forum, and all are welcome on the rides.

As usual when riding in a group, ride your own ride. If you don't feel comfortable in the group, simply drop out. Better that than droping off the road.

Personally, I have liked most of the group rides I have gone on from the forum. Then again, I stay away from the ones where the organizer clearly states that the ride will be aggresive.

Also, once the weather warms up the forum will have group meet-ups every Tuesday at various spots in the area. They also have a standing meet-up at the Starbucks in Herndon every Thursday evening.

I should have mentioned that most of the members of that forum are in their 20s and 30s and they enjoy a bit of drama at times.

I would have modified my previous post, but it does not have an "edit" link. Strangely enough, this post did have an "edit" link!

Thank you to everyone for your replies.

glockenspiel, if you ride most days, don't kid yourself....you are a biker. It's not what you ride or for what purpose. In my humble opinion what makes you a biker is miles and trials. What I mean by miles is you don't call someone a jogger who runs a mile or two every once in a while do you? What I mean by trials is every story (good or bad) you have about being on a motorcycle is an experience a non-biker doesn't have. The more stories, the more trials.

Our two bikes are custom '00 HD Deuce and a not quite stock but, not custom '06 HD Ultra Glide. I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to ride all over Europe and the U.S. The worst day riding is still better than the best day.....well than just about anything. The thing that makes it great is sharing the experience with others.

So, for all of you who replied and any others interested I will be more than happy to lay out some ride possibilities for when the weather improves. I assume this part of the forum (local area events) is a good place to post this type of get together. If not, please let me know where I should post. It would be nice to be able to get together with everyone from the area on a Sat or Sun, go for a ride and grab some chow along the way.

Keep the rubber side down and I look forward to meeting and riding with all of you.

    Flash and GG

I ride a Honda 919 (for now). My husband has a Vulcan Custom.

Leesburg Police sponsors a poker run that is a ton of fun-can't remember off the top of my head when it is. They escort up Route 15 to Gettysburgh, PA and back. Shut down the road and prevent the cars from entering. It's a great time, especially if you're in the way back!

I've been riding for 20 years in NOVA. No worries, just watch out for the SUV.

I've also completed an Iron Butt or two - Not the smartest thing to do on this planet.

So lets plan something, maybe just a little ride down Skyline. It's the best around.
