Hey Broadlanders! Is anyone interested in starting a bicycling club that would meet for regular evening/weekend road rides?
I am trying to get back into training and find it might work better with a group. Plus, it's also fun to ride with others.

There may be a club already, if so, or you are interested in forming one, let me know.

Im certain that there are. You may want to see if you could get something in the newsletter for this. Its possible that not many bikers read the forum, hence the lack of replies. I work nights, otherwise I would probably give it a whirl.....g/l.

Bill- I'm a bike person (not a biker, per se)...

But you sound more serious than my casual "ride the trail to have lunch in Leesburg" mentality...or am I off base?

Did you mean sorta racing type biking or go on outings type of biking?

Dawne- Hey, long time no see.
I did mean more on the racing side. More of a focused high paced riding style.

Dwarflord - Good idea about the newsletter. Thx

Not sure if I am interested in joining a "serious bikers" club, but can someone tell me where the closest access point to the W&OD trail is located?

How far is it to Leesburg from Broadlands on a bike? And is it a straight forward trip or are there any branches in the path. Just bought a used bike recently.

Also has anyone taken the REI bike maintenance class? If so, was it worth the money? I always like to do my own repairs and I'm looking to learn more about bike maintenance. Bascially learn how to disassemble and reassemble a bike. Last time I had a bike was 1989.

    Teak-
Not sure about the mileage, but the best way to Leesburg via bike is to go north on Claiborne until it ends, then take the W&OD bike trail.

I've just started biking the W&OD trail to work at route 28, and I have a couple questions:
    1) the bike path is closed with a detour for a big chunk between Claiborne and Ashburn road. Anyone know why, or an estimated schedule for reopening?
    2) Any recommended routes for getting to the bike path travelling north-east rather than straight north up Claiborne?
    thanks
