Hello ya'll! Everyone in the Broadlands received their postcard and no doubt has it stuck on the fridge-

FRIDAY JUNE 11 we open a SUPERIOR SEASON with 2 AWESOME ACTS!

    5:30pm start time
    Opening Act
    ROCKNOCEROS! http://www.rocknoceros.com/

They have sold 10,000 CDs, with their first two CDs each winning Best Children's Recording from the Washington Area Music Association. As their popularity and reputation spread beyond the DC Metropolitan area, Rocknoceros is poised to entertain much larger audiences, and with the release of PINK! it is clear the band is ready for the national stage.

    Main Event
    JUNK FOOD http://www.junkfoodmusic.com/

"JunkFood is a band with no illusions about itself. The music the Fairfax foursome makes has little nutritional value, but it sure is delicious. That makes JunkFood just about the perfect bar band. There is no artistic pretension or forced emo moping, just good-time, high-energy, well-played rock-and-roll."
    - C. Woodrow Irvin, The Washington Post

what more do you need to know??? grab your blankets and chairs, bug spray and cooler, and come out for this free neighborhood event. here's the tiny type that you'll be glad you read...

BYOB but PLEASE no glass drinking containers- bring plastic cups and wine glasses as needed!

NO ID- NO ALCOHOL- NO EXCEPTIONS. doesn't matter if you look 35 or 85- ABC requires an ID for a band on your arm to allow alcoholic consumption so PLEASE don't forget your ID. please please. this event could be compromised by breaking this rule so just bring the driver's license and be DONE with it! :)

NO PETS. too loud for Fido anyway! for the safety of all, leave the four legged children at home.

finally- please clean up after yourself- plenty of trash and recycling bins all around! This event is run by volunteers and it helps us a bunch if you take your trash (and your children) with you when you go. MUCH THANKS!

I just can't wait- i LOVE this event and we are SO grateful to our sponsors and vendors who help to make this event the biggest summer social inthe Broadlands! check out the site for more info and please come on out ya'll!!!
    http://broadlandslive.com/

BTW- Subway, Dominoes and Hawaii Best Shaved Ice will be there selling delicious food, so please support your local businesses by pigging OUT. ;)

These are the same bands that played last year, aren't they? The names sound familiar....

they are mostly return acts but I don't remember if it was last year... all have been extremely popular so we do bring back faves. we also try to get many new acts but scheduling isn't always easy.

the new act I am MOST excited about is the highschool band from Briar Woods- Mercury in Summer! followed closely by the Pan Masters- a steel drum band that is unbelievable...

I have a question about parking. Do you know if people going to Broadlands Live use the church parking lot on the corner? We have a preschool graduation there that night and I'm wondering if it'll be a zoo trying to get into our parking lot.

One of the volunteers from the committee always helps out with directing parking. Cones are put up and helpful direction is given so that Kindercare and Our Savior's Way lots are minimally, if at all, impacted.
One thing I encourage my friends and neighbors to do on these nights is try to walk to events in that region, namely Broadlands Live, if possible.

parking is not allowed at the church or schools- the website spells out where folks should park. when there aren't events at the community center- that's available for parking too. we have an awesome traffic director as well!

hopefully those who live close enough and are able to walk- WILL WALK- that's what we encourage...

thanks Maureen! so the best answer is WALK if you can!
I wonder if it's a probelm to park in the parking lot with Cafe opera and the closed Wachovia?

ppl just need to consider using the tunnel to cross over and not the main road for safety...

there's got to be parking. not all of us have the ability to walk to Hillside. where is the traffic director going to direct the onslaught of cars? Hillside's parking lot is skimpy at best. I'm not trying to be an antagonist over this. We'd love to walk if we could and considering it's not an option (and no, neither is carpooling because there's no bus to take on our family of 6) where else do we park?

    two words: COME EARLY.

since the bank is closed i can't see those parking spaces being an issue during this event... that's not too far away.

i've been emceeing the event for 4 years now and somehow it always works out- there is not a huge parking problem since most people DO carpool, walk or come early.

so don't worry, be happy and come enjoy the show.

Redon, unless you've contacted the commercial property managers for that 'plaza' and they've given you permission to let folks park there, I would be careful telling people it's okay to park there during the event. It's private property after-all and I would hate to have someone's evening ruined by having their car towed. Maybe one of the organizers can contact the property management and get an official word on parking availability?

It is legal to park on the side streets (i.e. Lefevre, Ellzey) as long as you are not blocking a driveway. Redon is right tho', most people walk and those who cannot arrive early.

i called Tetra and am working it out to confirm that it will not be a problem not guarantees yet. SO:

THE BEST ADVICE IS TO GO TO WWW.BROADLANDSLIVE.COM AND FOLLEO THE PARKING RECOMMENDATIONS THERE.

admins- can you please remove my question/suggestion about using that parking area until i confirm with Tetra that no one will be towed if they park in that lot?

okay... soooo- anyone gonna post that they are excited about a free and fabulous event and can't wait to come and hear some great music...? :cheerleader:

    anyone- anyone- Bueller-

i completely understand concerns about logistics but it's fun, it's free, and it's a well run and wonderful event. hope you come and enjoy.

Have they told you this? A few years ago, they told me parking in their lot was fine, as long as they didn't have an event going on, which they rarely do on Friday nights.

This Friday, Hillside is hosting the 5th grade party from 6-9 pm. I'm not sure if that would impact the parking there though.

This Friday is Our Saviour's Way (church on the corner) preschool graduation, so there will be an event concurrent with Broadlands Live.

Besides the private party at the CC the CSL swim team uses the lot from 5:30pm until 8pm for swim practice.
