Hi All, I have a question in regards to the southern walk HOA yard maintainence policy / services.

Is HLS supposed to rake the leaves as well ?
Is HLS supposed to rake the clippings ?

They seem to be mowing the yard but they are leaving the leaves and clippings in the yard. Usually they have a guy come by with a blower and they collect the debris. But they have not had that person in my back yard for quite a while now, that person however has been in my front yard...

The Only reason I am particularly concerned with this. I was in my back yard and I stumbled upon a small ticks nest growing in a heap shoved to the side...

Cleaning the clippings and leaves is obviously something I can and will do, but I am interested if this is actually the responsibility of HLS... just curious...

    Thanks All

Is HLS cleaning up the leaves this year? I don't recall them doing it last year, I think they just ran the mower one last time and mulched the leaves - I'm addressing the common property areas only.

HLS does not specifically rake leaves. They will mow over them and collect them with the clippings.

If they are not collecting your clippings, contact Wes at the Nature Center.

I can tell you HLS didn't collect the clippings on our street, I spent the better part of Sunday sucking up the clippings left in our lawn.

Also I would be curious to know when they are going to proceed with the fall mulching.

The fall mulching was eliminated a few years back in order to keep costs down. This was based on the results of residents surveys.

Grass clippings shouldn't be picked up anyway.

They return valuable nitrogen to the lawn. One bag of clippings is equivalent to one pund of nitrogen, or roughly one commercial fertilizer application.

They also act as a mulching agent and reduce the need for watering.

so does having a wild field vs. a sculpted lawn.

But people aren't interested in having a wild field.. they are looking for a manicured lawn.

All thanks for the input! They are not raking the clippings at my place so that needs to be addressed.

HLS is back at it again...the grass clippings from Friday (and I understand this is what happens when you cut wet grass) are all over our sidewalk & driveway and it is clear they did not blow the clippings on our street this time around.

Don't get me started on how much F'ing grass was mowed into our landscaping beds or the dozens of clumps of cut grass they left behind. We spent a better part of an 90 minutes sweeping and picking up (their mess) on Sat morning.
