It's KTdid again. I went to the internet to look up the news story about the strange looking animal and found it here. http://www.nbc4.tv/irresistible/3546291/detail.html

Have a look and see if it's what you saw. It very much resembles the animal I had in my back yard. It was caught and identified but I won't say what it is...just have a look at the picture on the website.

i did see that story in my internet search to find the weird animal. it does look similar (although the photographs are horribly out of focus). It could be that. it did look very timid, but it appeared a fair bit taller than the other one's we've seen in the yard.

If it eats rabbits, I'm all for it's population explosion.

it's funny you should say that, we found a bunny carcass with a missing head in our driveway a few weeks back, and I was wondering what sort of animal could and would do that. you'd think they'd want to eat the whole thing. i like the bunnies tho, most of our garden flowers are out of their reach so they're not too destructive.

it was probably one of your neighbors cats that did that. we have a neighbor that has 5 outdoor cats, and they've left bunnies for us like that twice.

Not to change the subject but 5 outdoor cats is a bit excessive! I've been feeding a stray (maybe not a stray after all) for several months now. I'm watching the songbirds slowly disappear...I say put a lease on them (not the songbirds! the cats!)

Ah, the photos prove that we finally have the offspring of a canine and ungulate! This "wolfelope" should be exhibited at the zoo.

Unless it eats the heads off of rabbits. Didn't anybody tell this creature that this only applies to chocolate Easter bunnies??

Anyone have any left-over Easter candy to sacrifice? That may help.

    Hi,

Today, I think I may have also seen this creature. I live at the end of Tumbletree Terrace. I believe I stratled it walking my dog. It ran behind a row of townhouses and then into a storm drain. It does have very cat like features, a very long tail, extremely fast and thankfully wary of humans. The picture that was oringally posted looked close to what I saw except this animal was definitlely more muscular in build. I have called anminal control and they stated that the game warden would be the one to investigate, but would not do so on only one reported inicident. They suggested that anyone else in the nieghborhood who has spotted this creature should call in.

I definately heard a bobcat the other night around midnight near Chickacoan and Gatehouse as it walked around the area then down Chickacoan towards Vestals Gap. It sounded much like a domestic cat except its scream was piercing.

Dutch, I live near Chickacoan and Gatehouse too, and thought I heard something the other night as well, though a bit later. I take it you didn't see it, but only heard it? If it's really a bobcat would animal control do anything about that? I certainly don't want to run into it with the dog at night.

Yep, only heard it from off my deck. It seemed to be circling around for a little while as the screeches got louder then softer. Finally, it seemed to walk off towards Vestal's Gap as the screeches got further away. It was probably about 3 weeks ago.
