speaking of pressure washers... anyone know where to rent one for a day for < $100... seems most places want around that for a day's rental. It peeves me that you can rent a $20,000 car for $19 a day, but a $800 pressure washer is $100! ugh!

We have approved the contract for our snow contractor. Of course, the HOA only supplies removal for common areas, private roads (pipestems), and (I believe) the townhouses.

VDOT will have snow removal on all roads that have been turned over, and the developer will have the rest. A full list will be printed in the November Broadlands Newsletter.

Pipestems attached to VDOT streets are the responsibilty of the homes that are on them. The HOA does not plow pipestems that are attached to VDOT streets.

Just curious - if the street I live on has been turned over to the VDOT, does that mean that my HOA dues are less because VDOT is clearing the street?

Curious ...when does VDOT take over each street from HOA ?
What is used to determine when that take over / turn over takes place ?

VDOT does not take over streets from the HOA, they take over streets from the DEVELOPER. The developer is not paid any of the HOA dues to clear streets, it is their responsibility until they turn over the street to VDOT.

The VDOT requirements cover a few pages (books ??), some of which I've seen enforced are: no permanent hedge or plants within the 3 or 4 foot VDOT ROW (measured from the curb); no basketball hoops or any other such item on the ROW or the street; bicycle ramps will be provided at each corner of the ROW, which is why you may find a bicycle ramp at a corner where there is no sidewalk. The reason, a sidewalk could still be put in later !! No sprinker systems within the ROW ...

And so on, and so on, etc, etc ...

    WesGurney-
The Developer pays for clearing the street until they are turned over to VDOT. The HOA does not pay for it. The HOA only pays for private streets that are not maintained by VDOT.
    Snoopy-
VDOT takes over the streets from the Developer, not the HOA. That timing is determined by the Developer, working with VDOT.

Gotcha. Must of missed that - for some reason I thought part of my HOA dues were going to snow removal on my street.

Thanks for the quick response Cliff!

Not sure how far you are willing to travel, but there is a "hand-wash" styled car wash in Tysons Corner on Route 7 across from Tysons Ford. I work in Tysons. So, I normally go there during lunch.
