Can someone tell me what the rule is on getting the lights and decorations off your house? It still may be within the time limit but I see alot of wilting blow up santa's and lights sagging on trees out there. Thanks.

There is probably no statute of limitation on Christmas lights as I've seen lights on a house since 1964.

Actually they fall under the Modifications Subcommittee Guidelines:

"Seasonal/Holiday lighting will not be reviewed; they should be removed promptly at the end of the season."

Since alot of people keep their lights on until after the Epiphany (Dec 7th) I would say two weeks after that date, all lights should be down.

Not to be nit-picky, but epiphany is Jan. 6. However, Orthodox Christmas is celebrated on the 7th. :)

It would be interesting to see if the HOA wants to define season timelines. That's extremely dangerous territory.

Point taken ... still, 7th is the day I would select as the start of the tear down 'countdown'. ;)

Perhaps, but the generally recognised season for Christmas lights (as far back as I can remember) is Thanksgiving thru the 6th (or 7th) of January. I remember putting them up on Thanksgiving in the 50's, and taking them down right after the Epiphany (usually in sub-freezing weather).

Now for Halloween ... all bets are off !!

Here in Brambleton, they've done just that. We have until the 15th to remove holiday decorations.

The only time I can recall us having to enforce this rule was when the decorations were still up in May. I think we can all agree that this would exceed the Christmas season timeline.

I may be mistaken (AFGM can correct me if I am), but here in "the Farm" I think we have until January 31 to remove the decorations. The date is specific (to avoid the interpretation of "the end of the season).

A caveat...We have a great deal of diversity in Broadlands so there are homes with "decorations" that are not seasonal (obviously, I'm not talking about Santas and reindeer)...before you assume they are, take a closer use...this might also be a good time to start up a conversation with a neighbor from a different culture about their customs...don't mean to sound preachy..just a suggestion

Cliff, you underestimate those individuals who are "proactive". They may just be ahead of schedule. So do you ding them for being behind or ahead?
