    Hi All
So just wanted to get a consensus here... I've noticed in the Southern Walk area that there are a bunch of houses with full fledged Christmas lights up already. It has been about 4 days since I first saw them. I'm not talking about plain white lights either... but straight up colored and blinking lights.

Now I admit.. I have no kids so I don't get into the festivities as much as I used to. But do we really need Christmas lights up 2 full months ahead of the holiday?

Also- I can see why some people do Halloween lights for Halloween, but thats getting a bit crazy too. People tend to buy into the marketing thing a bit too much I think.

So then... any rules in regards to Holiday lights on houses 2 months before the holiday?

    Thanks for letting me rant!

There are many religions represented in Broadlands some of which celebrate a holiday this time of year by decorating their homes with lights.

(Sarcasm On) You mean we are not all Catholic? I thought you had to be in order to live in this county, vote, and put up lights. (Sarcasm Off)

I, too, noticed the lights. I thought they were for Halloween and maybe someone was a little color blind! Thanks for the info about Dawali. Here's a link for anyone who wants some additional info:

Sounds like a nice holiday to me! When the sweets are exchanged, can someone let me know?

Thanks folks for the answers. Even those that wanted to be a smart-***.

I would not have known about Diwali if someone hadn't told me (and I'm also not stupid enough to think that everyone is Catholic). Just so happens that when most people around here see lights associated with Christmas... that is what they think of. Not to mention with people jumping on the 'decorate for every little holiday we can think of' bandwagon, I thought (as do most of the people I talk to actually) that some were getting a very big headstart on the December holiday.

take care and happy holidays to you.

The joys of an HOA community. People concerned about lights and sign colors. (sigh) ;)

What do Christmas lights have to do with being Catholic? This is the first time in my whole life (60+) that I've ever heard anyone associate Christmas lights with being a Catholic.

Wow ok people. May I please ask the forum mods to just lock this before it turns into some crazy flame war on Religion or peoples knowledge -- or lack thereof -- on the topic.

I was just inquiring about freakin lights.

    thanks

Yes, but you made a statement associating Christmas lights with being a Catholic and I'm curious where that connection comes from?

There are guidelines pertaining to outdoor seasonal decorations. Check with the HOA if concerned.

To: GCyr -- It wasn't me that associated X-mas lights with Catholics... it was someone else in the thread, I was responding back.

To: Up_on_one -- Heck yeah I was ranting about x-mas lights. Until I was told they were for the Diwali holiday, I assumed they were for Christmas... which is 2 months away! So my ranting was in regards to why someone would put up X-mas lights for Christmas 2 months ahead of schedule. And 'pretty' is in the eye of the beholder so don't assume everyone thinks they look good.

Now that I know they are for the Diwali holiday it makes sense to me and I'm happy people are celebrating.
