Does anyone know how we can find out the paint color for our front door (townhome in Broadlands)? Previous owner changed the lock and left a big gap of unpainted wood around the new lock (new lock smaller than previous lock -- they obviously just painted the door around the original lock). Need to fill it in, but not sure how to make sure it matches and don't really want to redo the whole thing. Any ideas?

look for a townhome with the same door. ask if they still have the paint so you can copy the number.

We have a Ryland townhome which used duron paints... I think the codes are in their computer.... I'm sure there's not too many diff door colors.

I need to repaint my door too.. same problem as you have =)

Try contacting the builder. They keep the records of all their homes sold, including colors, for quite a while.

If you happen to have one of the origional Miller and Smith Homes (not the majic series) I somehow ended up with a list of all the colors of doors, siding, shutters, etc. It is all listed by lot number which would be very helpful if you had. If not I think we can figure it out. If it is not Miller and Smith Cliff is right the origional builder is the best place to call

If you can peel off the paint (size about the same as a quarter) and bring it to Home Depot, their computers can match it.

But visit the paint department first to verify.

Speaking of painting doors, are we allowed to change the color of our door as long as it's a color the builder has used in another house in the neighborhood? We hate the color of our door and really want to have it redone!

    Robin-
If you are painting the door a color ANY color different than it currently is, it requires an application and approval from the Modification Subcommittee. If it is a color already used in the neighborhood, then there is very little chance it will not be immediately approved.

That's great news! How do I find out exactly what colors are ok? Should I contact M&S? Thanks!

We have approved most colors submitted. Only loud, extremely bright colors might be rejected. I would suggest getting some paint chips of the colors you like and submitting them with your application.

Thanks so much for your help! I'll refrain from using the hot pink, which was my original choice! ;) We like the other colors in our neighborhood, but not our own! Great idea sending the paint chip in!

Did anyone manage to get the paint code/number of the front door from the builder?

    Thanks

Baskar, you might want to check with the HOA. I believe they have files that indicate the color codes for a particular brand of paint. Those color codes are part of the guidelines; how else can they say that the color is not correct?

It is not that a definitive color is correct or incorrect. It is more that a color is within the general theme of what the builder originally painted a door.

If a color is a shade lighter or darker than the original door than the Modifications Sub-Committee "probably" won't have a problem with it.

And NO, the committee does not have "codes" for every paint color that the builders have used.

The HOA does not have ANY individual home paint colors from the builders.
We generally allow the changing of a door to a completely different color as well, as long as the new color is in keeping with other colors within the community.

    Thanks for the info.

I do not want to change the color of the door. We actually like the color. Just have to repaint it for some reason.

    Thanks again.

baskar, if you are painting it the same color then you do NOT need to submit an application to the Modifications Committee as it is considered "maintenance".
