Does Broadlands have a community site for parking of RV's, boats, etc.? A lot of communities in this area have a space that the residents can rent since there isn't parking allowed at the houses.

OK, anyone know of a location to park large vehicles or boats? We've called around a lilttle and there is nothing available. What would it take to create something for Broadlands? Seems like there should be a community space if you aren't going to allow them to be parked in the driveway.

Those self storage rental places usually offer some sort of large vehicle parking/storage.

Who would want such a storage space next to their property and who would be responsible for damage, vandalism, etc. to RVs and boats park there? You should have known that they weren't allowed before purchasing a home and moving into Broadlands, so I don't think that you should expect the HOA to bail you out now.

Algonkian Park has some storage, but you have to get on a wait list. We’ve used a self storage place in Herndon. They were expensive at $60 a month. Bull Run Park in Manassas was reasonable - they were $37.50/month but it’s about 30 minutes to get there.

WOW - Thanks for the info dude - I am not looking for the HOA to "Bail me out". Other developments have it so why is it unreasonable to think that others would have it too? As far as the "not in my backyard", it doesn't have to be next to a house. It could be next to the HOA building, or one of the pools, churches, schools, etc.

Thanks again for being so helpful. I've called quite a few places and they all are full with waiting lists.

The Reston HOA has a similar concept that is allows residents to store boats, RV's, trailers, etc

    Here is a link
    http://www.reston.org/parks_rec/p_rv_storage_lot.html

If you were interested in trying to start something, they might be able to give you some feedback. Could be a way to generate revenue for the our HOA.

Parking lots of large, aluminum type vehicles have been shown to be tornado magnets due to the large magnetic field that draws the charged tornados. ;)

You're quite welcome. If asking for the HOA to provide a parking space for your RV or boat isn't bailing you out, then I stand (or sit) corrected. Just rent it out between your uses so it's on the road or in the water all the time, and you won't have to park it. Is that more helpful for you?

The HOA has no property to put in something like this. You would need a decent sized parcel with road access, and we don't have any.
Feel free to contact Van Metre and try and convince them to create something like this. My odds would be on the snowball's chance in ......

I know there's an opening coming up at the Guardian in Chantilly, but they probably filled it from a wait list....

The guardian in Leesburg tried to open a facility, but the Board of commisioners decided it would be an eyesore, or some other such nonsense. afterall, who would want to see all those RVs/boats parked next to the sewage treatment plant???

Actually, it was either the Leesburg Zoning Commission or the County Zoning I forget which.

So if one of my neighbors has their boat parked on a trailer on their driveway for more than a few days in a row thats a clear violation of HOA rules, right? If so I'll take a digital photo and report it. I don't think the HOA will do anything about since the neighbor with commercial pickup truck I reported 2 months ago still parks it in plain sight in front of his house.

You know, if I wanted to live in a community with dozens of vehicles parked on the street and driveways instead of garages where they belong I could have saved a bunch of cash and just got a home in Sterling Park. The irony is that Broadlanders tend to have more "disposable" cash which some have used to fill up their garages with crap. Thus forcing their 10's of thousand dollar vehicles outside in the elements for all to see. Everyone who moves in gets the HOA rules in writing before signing their sales contract. The rules are designed to improve not detract from the quality of life we enjoy in Broadlands. Violators are selfish and have a poor sense of community.

Yeah it sucks that the attics of most THs are non-functional for storage. Although there are few H2's that can't fit in some of the garages around here lol.

Wait ... are you now saying,
    you are offended
    OR
that we shouldn't be allowed to,
park our car(s) in our own driveway? :pofl:
Personally it is my way of stickin' it to the "man" - take a look at my Black Toyota Celica - HA! LOOK AT IT - JUST LOOK AT IT! This would be alot funnier if I owned an H2 - the abomination - oh the humanity.
