This morning we put a large pile of charity goods outside my front door clearly marked PURPLE HEART in large letters (two large signs) ready for pick up today.
Within 20 minutes, the construction guys (across the street on Glebe View) were ripping it off. 3/4 of our things were taken. My husband had to go over and get our things and put them back...
    What was that all about?!?

    SK8R,
I live in Brambleton, and I had the same thing happen with furniture that we left out for Amvets. I managed to call Amvets to cancel their trip but I'm still not happy that my charitable action (not to mention deduction) was ripped off.

That's not good. I was going to donate some stuff to Salvation Army .. I guess I will just drop it off instead of asking them to pick them up .....[V] Kind of worried since UPS and FEDEX leaves packages in the front stoop ... any issues with delivery packages ?

Honestly, I think they just do not understand what we do here in the US with charity... I believe they were just ignorant and thought we were setting the stuff out for a "free for all give away"... maybe that is what they do in South America... I have no clue.
I am just so glad my hubby was home to handle it... I had just rolled out of bed and noticed it and freaked out. Now it is kind of funny to think about it...

We had the same problem a few years ago. Now we put a sign on the stuff and pile it up on the front walk or at the top of the driveway, rather than along the street. We've never had a problem since.

FWIW ... I always review what a charity says about how much is actually used by the organization for 'overhead' and how much actually goes to where its intended. You may want to read this about Purple Heart:

I usually take all my stuff to the Loudoun Women's Shelter, they have a resale location that funds their residence.
