We moved here from the NW suburbs of Boston. Code required my hubby to dig his post holes FOUR FEET down when he added stairs to our deck. So I hear you!

We are in the process of having Holloway Company do a paver patio with stone walls and stairs. The are currently out there working in the rain!! It's too early to tell if the project is a success, but so far so good. They have been great to work with up to this point.

We got 4 or so bids (Potomac Patio, Mainstreet, Azalea Acres (Burke)) - they were all in the same ball park -- pricey!

The stamped concrete is definitely cheaper - and attractive - but I preferred the look of the pavers.

We lived in Acton, Boxboro, and West Townsend before moving to NH.

I agree with you, there are so many choices when you select pavers (patterns, colors etc) - that's why we selected pavers for our patio.

thepea2001 - I believe we have admired your backyard during our neighborhood jaunts - the patio and landscaping came together beautifully!!

We are at the corner of Ridgeway and Claiborne...so if you are talking about the white house with the corner lot, that's us. Thank you for the compliment...we wanted to improve the over all look of the neighborhood - so we spent a little more to "do it right"!:D - I have to say we are really pleased with the landscaper we selected last year. Some of the trees/shrubs have not faired very well, and will be replaced next week at no cost to us. Much to my husband's displeasure I will be out tomorrow planting my spring/summer annuals to add a punch of color to the lot. If you see us, give us a wave.

Do you have photos you can post of the cracked portion or overall look?

We took the same approach--spent a little more--and got what we like.

It obviously comes down to personal preference, but we like the look of our slate walkway and believe that we've made a solid investment in the value of our home. No regrets at all.

Our neighbors across the street liked the results so much that they contracted Potomac to do their walkway and front entrance steps. Theirs, which include brick accents, is absolutely beautiful.

    We don't have any cracks.
I don't have a digital camera, nor do I know how to use our scanner so I can't post a picture. Feel free to stop by and see it.

Cliff - I called CJ Salzano and he is coming out to give me an estimate. He did suggest a stamped concrete overlay. Where do you live? I would love to see how it looks.

21454 Basil Court. Off Glebe View, just south of Truro Parish.

Cliff... one more question if you don't mind. (Or for anyone else with stamped concrete.) How slippery is it?

I haven't noticed it to be slippery at all. In fact, it's much less slippery than our stained concrete walk was.

It's not slippery at all - so long as it's sealed properly. When they mix the sealant, they put in an additive (same concept as the DIY kits for sealing a garage floor) that adds some grit and tackiness to the concrete.
