    Lisa and others--

Check out my posts on Homeowners Corner under Siding Thread. Food dr and Foodie are one and the same. I had forgotten my original user name and redid the name. Anyway, on 03/13/06 I posted a contractor that we used when we built our home for some projects.

His name is Tom Hoover with Hoover Construction. He is great for roofing, siding, and other general contracting jobs (i.e. construction projects of all types). Just ask if he would do a job with your particular specifications. I was a former sales manager for GA Pacific and can offer others if needed. Also, check with Tart Lumber in Sterling (by Belfort Furniture) and ask for their recommendations for contractors. Craig Fritchie (VP of Tart Lumber) is a friend of ours and any of their staff and sales team can help you. Their Millwork Department and Hardware Center is a great resource for home needs.

Alot depends on the materials that you use and also you will need to have the contractors "pull permits" if necessary unless you are planning on the that yourself. The inspections for any electrical, plumbing, etc. will need permits or upgrades perhaps on your particular construction job. You want to be sure that you have every thing up to the correct residential building codes, etc. Also, be sure to get at least three or four GOOD references from their (the contractor's) customers that they did the construction jobs for. Framing a wall is not too hard of a job for a DIY (Do-It-Yourself) person and sheetrocking and mudding is fairly easy.

Before I had my quads, we finished off our basement ourselves and "pulled permits" and was our own general contractor. You just have to know what you are doing--which we did. My hubby is DIYer and Electrical Engineer VP and can do any thing like this type of work. Any questions--feel free to ask.
