It appears that some crab grass has ventured into my yard and started to spread. What is the best way to deal with this. I have read everything from certain fertalizers to ripping out the sod and putting new down.

Winter is coming. Crabgrass is an annual, so it will die out. What you want to make sure is that it doesn't go to seed, so keep cutting the grass.

Next year, use a good fertilizer like Scotts + weed control. Read the label, they've got some that's a pre-emergent for both broadleafs (dandelions) and crabgrass.

    Hope this helps.

Ah, that's why I have just noticed it appearing recently...thanks for the tips.

on a side note, you should return to VA, since you have been in P'burg you have given Rothlesburger bad luck, first a motorcycle wreck then appendix, it's time you just come back here ;)

I agree .. but if they've already gone to seed, you're going to need to have something down in spring so they don't come back. Then you have the neighbor's who don't treat or pull ... their seeds get blown on your side of the property line.
