I just found on my door a bag for a Scouting food collection drive along with McCain/Palin literature. This appears to have been left by the same person. Can anyone confirm this?

The Cub Scouts, at any level (den through national) should be completely non-political. If this was left by a scout this is very inappropriate.

I will no longer support scouting at any level, scouting should be for the kids not the parents and not for one political party or another. I really hope this is a coincidence not another political person going awry!

That's funny! I'm pretty sure it was just a coincidence.

We received the Scouting food drive information but no other fliers. I seriously think it was mere coincidence as the Scouts are specifically prohibited from campaign work.

For what it's worth, I just went to check the mail and when I opened the front door there was a political flyer stuck in it. The scout stuff was here by 9am but the political flyer came several hours later.

Sounds like a coincidence, but I love the knee jerk reaction to never supports scouts again.

Fritz-as a parent involved with distributing some of those Scouting for Food fliers, I can assure you that the Cub Scouts does not endorse political candidates. There are some people leaving political fliers in front doors today around the neighborhood, they are not the Cub Scouts. Each den is assigned a street to deliver fliers and pick up food items. Should you have questions or concerns please contact Pack 1483. And please support Scouting for Food - the food goes to families in need. Thanks.

Clarification - please contact the Cub Scout Pack listed on the flyer you received. There is more than one Cub Scout Pack in the area.

Pack 1483 is covering most of Broadlands - see www.pack1483.com for contact information. There is no way a Cub Scout was distributing political flyers. Those boys are busy tying the bags onto the door handles, which is a feat for some of the younger ones, and they have a lot of houses to cover so they're working pretty hard at just getting the bags out. I hope you'll think favorably of the scouts, but even more I hope you'll put some food out Saturday Nov. 8 by 9am for them to pick up - the Scouting for Food program benefits people who are going hungry right in Loudoun County.

The political information was distributed early today. We received one from the democrats and one from the republicans. The food drive information was hung on our door this afternoon. They are all from seperate groups.

My 8-year old son was extremely tired from Halloween, and not too excited when I woke him up at 7:30 this morning. But we went out in the cold and walked up and down 8 blocks distributing bags for food collection.

Before you reject the cub scouts and the food collection program, keep in mind that there is no incentive for these boys to do this, other than trying to benefit those less fortunate in our community at holiday time.

I believe something like 80% of the food given out to the needy in our area this season will be from this Scouting for Food program. Even if someone from Cub Scouts left you the political flyer, which is extremely doubtful, you should still consider donating some food to the needy through this program. They had nothing to do with the political material.

FYI - The Goose Creek District, National Capital Area Council has the been the #1 contributor to Scouting for food for the past bazillion years - almost serious. For at least the last 5 years our area and been #1 in the Nation for the TONNAGE of food collected.

And, yes, the political crap was an unfortunate coincidence.

A note to all those who are concerned about Scouting and party politics mxing: it is forbidden by BSA Policy, and those who violate the regulations are reprimanded. Each year at this time Loudoun County Scouting (known as Goose Creek District) leadership issues emails and in-person reminders to all the Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops that using Scouts to favor one party or another is prohibited. The multiple sets of door hangers is justing coincidental timing. Please give generously to the Scouting for Food effort next weekend 8 November by 9 am--the national-level BSA Scouting for Food service project and our Cub Scout Packs' local role in it is a key way that our Scouts learn that service to the community is important and is its own reward. With that said, however, it IS fun to watch Pack 1483 (Hillside) and Pack 1484 (Mill Run) work hard each other to see who can get the most food contributions each year Thanks to the annual great generosity of families in Broadlands and the communities surrounding us, the two Packs combined collect 9,000 to 10,000 pounds of the 80,000 to 100,000 pounds collected, and usually lead all other Cub Packs across Loudoun County. Much for our community to be proud of in that. Help both of them achieve that goal again!

Thank you all for your replies, it is refreshing to hear from you all (except Baywatch!). I was afraid a parent(s) had gone "rogue" ;), which we see far to often these days.

Sounds like pure coincidence and I am fully in the Scouts corner! Given the dramatic need in these worsening economic conditions I plan on giving even more than in the past.

    Thanks again all!
