I have to say that I have witnessed camps on excursions before...like last summer I would always see camps at the library- and they were so disruptive and the counselors had no control over the campers.
BUT!!!!!!! I saw the Top Kick campers at Dino Playground one day- the counselors are SO on top of everything and very respectful. I can't say enough good things about Top Kick. THose guys are genuine, hard-working, KIND people. THey are all about teaching respect and showing it!

I don't see how you think 43 kids/children going to the Southerwalk pool is "taking over" the pool. It's capacity any given day is over 350. The only big days we have are Memorial day weekend and 4th of July. Other than those days, we barely make capacity.

During those time periods, the pools are under utilized so what is the problem. It's a community pool so it's a shared resources, and a majority of those children live in the community.

Dude, lighten up. Life's too short....

The camps that are asking are mostly Broadlands based camps and there are not that many of them to begin with. Since most of the kids at these camps are Broadlands residents anyway I do not feel I am adding many people over and above who would be able to use the pool. As for any additional camps, I would have to look at any camp that asked on a case by case basis but I do not see any more then what we presently have. (One at SW and one at CC)

In my experience, the daycamp (or daycare) kids aren't making the pools reach capacity but it can feel like it when it's just me and a few other people and suddenly the big groups come in. What was a quiet weekday at the pool becomes a noisy Saturday. That's just how life goes, though! :)

I was at the Southern Walk pool yesterday when the Top Kick kids came to the pool. The kids were very well behaved and the pool was not over crowded with them there.

I can definitely see how some would not like it. I will take those concerns into consideration next year when and if another camp asks for the same privilege.

It was the "community" pool, not SW in the initial post. And Staci already posted the capacity at 135 (big difference huh).

I think the issue is mostly about expectations. Most people here go to certain pools expecting certain conditions. IMO, Community is considered the quieter pool, while SW is the older kids/teen pool and SB the kids pool.

As such, I do think think it is unreasonable to have a schedule posted somewhere when our pools will be significantly impacted even if it is during typically slow times. And yes, I think a significant amount of camp kids qualifies.

Thanks, but don't do it all on my account - I live in Ashburn Village! The situation is the same all over. I have seen at our pool that when the groups come to the main pool at the Pavilion they are instructed to use one side of the lap pool and not the whole thing. That helps some.

I was wrong it is actually 150 :) at community center
I believe it is a great idea to get a schedule posted and now with the new website I am working on doing just that. The schedule changes so much that it is hard to publish those things in the newsletter but if the tech committee and I can come up with a way to maintain it on the website I think it is a great idea.
Hopefully I will be able to have something up and working before the end of the season

I have had several comments from Broadlands residents too which is why I will take it into consideration for next year. It does not seem to be as big an issue for the use at SW as it does for CC so as someone stated it is just a perception of what that pool is used for. I will remember that for next year

While Community is the quietest of the pools, it has been getting busier and busier each year. I realize that it's not like it was when it was the only pool, but it is not always quiet (at least in previous years)

yes, but that pool is grossly under utilized at those times, and since it's only 1/3 of the capacity, I don't see a problem.

Plus there is another pool a mile away ( or less) that is under utilized as well.
